Anderson Silva WILL Fight Jon Jones in NY, But at a Catchweight

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva recently spoke at a lecture in Las Vegas, where the question was put to him by a member of the audience as to whether, as Dana White says, he will face Jon Jones before the end of 2013.

Surprisingly enough, “The Spider” addressed the revelation and confirmed that he and his team are very much interested in the fight happening this year, though the fight would have to be at a catchweight of 87kg (around 192 lbs), and would not involved either of their respective championships.

Silva also revealed that the plan is for the super fight to take place in New York City, with a Brazilian soccer stadium being the back-up plan should Madison Square Garden become a no-go once again.

SportTV.Globo.com reported this:

“They answered the questions of those present, the company’s employees, and at some point the fighter was asked about the match-up against Jon Jones. Besides confirming their willingness to face it and say that this should occur in 2013, said the Spider to be fighting at a weight of about 87kg intermediate and not worth nor his middleweight belt (up to 83.9 kg) nor the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg) Jones.

“Also according to the Brazilian, the idea is that the event takes place in New York City, where it has already exited the release of the State of New York to perform MMA tournaments there. If not, is there a chance of the stage being a soccer stadium in Brazil.”
