The first point there lends creedence to my theory about "toy collecting". Throw money at talent, no matter their role or lack thereof, just so they aren't potentially making anyone else any money. Especially true with AEW in play, but they had been lightweight doing this since the early 2000s and without the supposed competition. Sign up all the folks making any sort of noise, and sit on them so that "another WCW" doesn't happen. Too bad for them - though lucky for fans - that they weren't looking that hard at Japan.

On the second point, company (Vince) dicked themselves over by putting NXT on TV just to fuck with what was supposed to be an unopposed AEW show. That was one of the biggest draws to subscribe, and now you're giving it away? Recklessness on par with telling people they were stupid to spend $60 on a PPV when they could get a subscription for what was supposed to be an introductory $10 a month, but became such a marketing juggernaut, they had to stick to it.
This. 1,000,000 x this.
