It was the reverse of that. Crash was meant to Houdini his way out of the seemingly impossible odds as he normally does.

It's been rumored that Bob purposely timed it so that he'd walk out with the belt in what would appear to be a blown spot. But that's probably just a typical Internet "oh man that Bob Holly is a real asshole" myth.
