The Lesnar deal was not a last minute deal. During the week prior to SummerSlam, it was expected by the Lesnar camp that McMahon would make a huge offer for the Saudi Arabia show, as well as WrestleMania. Lesnar had not signed a new UFC contract, where UFC would have the ability to block the appearance, although UFC and WWE are not operating as enemies and UFC may not have stood in Lesnar’s way of making such a big payday if he was under contract. It is not clear when the offer was made and agreed, but it was several weeks ago.

The exact nature of the deal is unclear past that Lesnar is looking at signing short-term deals, feeling that with all the money both UFC and WWE have, that the more he’s free, the more he can play both sides and get the best deal possible

The entire Saudi Arabia deal has a confidentiality clause, but WWE does, as a public company, have to report the income and it is put in a category where you can pretty much estimate pretty closely what the number is.

However, on Smackdown, the interviews were saying 60,000, meaning they are probably looking at closer to 50,000 as a real number. We’re told that a lot of tickets have been sold, and let’s face it, 50,000 for pro wrestling no matter where it is, is a great number, but there are plenty of seats available all over the stadium and in all but one price range.

That’s a real sad story because he had superstar presence and most figured he’d be fast-tracked, because of his age and look, to main event status. He was just starting to do some really good singles matches in prelims so he was getting it down.

It also did a 3.9 share, a series low. Things look even worse since on 9/22 the show is being moved to 2:30 p.m., which is a worse time slot and the third time slot change since the series started.

Apparently the reason the U.K. show is on the network is because they had interest from BT Sports in the show, but BT is competition with Sky and it fell through, whether due to contract reasons with Sky or other reasons. WWE and Sky have had a long lasting relationship but there was a snag if you recall regarding the contract and the WWE Network. WWE never informed Sky about starting the network and Sky had just reached a deal where they would do PPVs of all the WWE PPV shows (previously they only did some on PPV and some aired on Sky).

She’s pushed the idea of late. I don’t sense there is anything to the story. One person in the company who would be in the loop on such things said that it has never been brought up to Rousey and without her approval it wouldn’t happen, and that it’s not something they think she’d want to do. There was legit bad blood between the two because of a public narrative of Rousey not wanting to fight her even though Rousey from the start had agreed to do so at 135, and continued to say that during her entire reign ...

While forgotten in history, the first UFC women’s fight in Anaheim was supposed to be Rousey vs. Cyborg. With the benefit of hindsight, history may have changed greatly. If they did that fight and Cyborg had won, the entire Rousey run never would have happened. Had Rousey lost that fight, who is to say the women would have ever drawn significant numbers since Cyborg never drew in Strikeforce after beating Gina Carano. Without the big Rousey run where she proved she could do big PPV numbers, the history of women in UFC, boxing, kickboxing and WWE would be extremely different to say the least.

It still doesn’t make sense that an officer would risk his career to do an arrest in that situation but there was at least more of a storyline explanation for it

The only official word on the new more expensive tier is that it’s coming “sooner than later.

Some other sheet news includes:
  • In a "WWE Did You Know" type fact, today is the 21st anniversary of WWE's first ever "One Night Only" ppv in the United Kingdom. Besides making history, the event is also notable for being the last singles match between Bret Hart and Undertaker in the WWF.
  • According to the Observer, Impact Wrestling's current tv deal with POP TV expires at the end of this year.
  • Observer had a lengthy piece on WWE's victory in the concussion lawsuit and stated because of the lawyer Konstantine Kyros' antics, future CTE/concussion lawsuits against the company are now almost impossible to succeed in court. Judge kept cutting down the window allowed to sue and added several stips that tipped the scales way too much in WWE's favor in the future.
  • According to PWI, WWE is in the process of changing their contract terms from being standard 3 year deals to 4 year deals going forward. Rumored to have already changed some NXT contracts to include the extra year. https://twitter.com/SoDuTw/status/1042577346950250496
  • Madison Square Garden officials recently debunked rumors of Vince McMahon and WWE holding a meeting with the arena in an effort to get MSG to pull out from hosting ROH's G1 Supercard event next year.
