Assassin's Creed is going to take on a live service format. It's not going to be like Destiny, Division, or games like that. It's still going to be very single player focused. But instead of buying a whole new game you'll buy one and get content drops including different timelines to explore.

Some people may not like this, but for me, it's great news. I've said this before, but the games are just too fucking long. Beautifully designed worlds, but much of the map looks the same. Ubisoft is the undisputed king of reusing assets in open world games. Gameplay is great, but there's only so many times you can do the same stuff over and over again.

I think smaller more frequent content drops is the way to go, in keeping things fresh. All that said, we've seen plenty of live service games fall on their faces in recent years, so at the same time, this could be a disaster.
