Vince probably never saw him. And if he did, he probably thought he wasn't the right fit for WWE. When he came in to WWE, it really felt like they were just going to use him as a new toy. Almost to gloat that they can get anyone they want. But he got that reaction in the 2016 Rumble and got to work with Jericho, he played ball and didn't whinge when he was asked to lie down, and then had a phenomenal match with Roman Reigns and energized everyone when he went against Cena. They didn't let him talk at first, but then he cut some fine promos and I can just envision him winning Vince over.

It's more to do with AJ being really good once he got there than anything AJ did prior that has gotten Vince to enjoy him, I think.
