Until there is another face that's built up to his level, step 3 doesn't happen. WWE missed the boat on that a while ago. Orton could be close, but he's got to start beating the hell out of everyone, not just heels.

Everyone screaming for a Cena heel turn acts like it would be a rejuvenation of the wrestling industry. But the discussion never goes beyond that statement. I'd just like to expand on the idea that heel Cena would be a great thing.

Cena could be the corporate heel that Austin never was.

Make him a mix of Hollywood Rock/Cocky Heel Jericho, and Vince McMahon.

Basically, have him dress like a movie star, wear suits, act like everyone loves him when he doesn't, and basically be a hypocrite who doesn't care about the fans, but tries to play them to get them to buy his merchandise.

I like the idea of making Cena something like hollywood rock/cocky heel Jericho but in truth I think the best way for Cena to turn heel would be for him to pull a Hogan ala NWO and go wild on every WWE superstar. Having him lead Nexus could have really worked for this but WWE has pretty much dropped the ball there and lost their chance. IMO thow I really think Cena should stay face for now 1)because from a business standpoint it's the best decision and 2)because I just don't think WWE can pull of a good Cena heel turn in the PG era. Give it a few years and mabe just mabe we could see an interesting Cena turn but for now I think it would just make both sides mad both smarks and marks alike.

I still think he'd work well with an entourage. Of course, back when I started suggesting it he wasn't that removed from his "wigger" days and I was thinking specifically a bunch of hip-hop posers, but it could work with a "Hollywood" John Cena. If Superman Cena overcomes a fight and doesn't back down, then Hollywood Cena is too big a deal to risk confrontation.

Hell, he could even allign with Vince, who insists that Cena's too valuable to risk being injured. After all, he's the #1 star.

But I still wouldn't. And WWE won't as long as Cena=Cash.

I think it's important to develop his motives and gains in kayfabe too. Instead of just having him bitching at fans and being a corporate "sell out", he should also have something to gain for it as a career wrestler in kayfabe.
Since he wins every match and beats everyone, and as far as kayfabe is concerned, is one of the best wrestlers of alltime in terms of wins, who he's beaten, titles, etc. etc., he should stay that way. He should just decide that he's going to play dirty, take no friends, and be a dick about it to be even more dominant.
I don't think he should become cowardly at all. I think he should still be just as much of "Superman." Instead, he just realizes what he's capable of and decides to use it for evil and selfish reasons, and goes on a power trip.

I'd go somewhere between heel Superman and corporate sell-out. I've always liked the idea of Cena being loved by the Mr. McMahon character because he's such a good company man, and rakes in the WWE a lot of cash. That being said, he shouldn't be a coward. The reason we hate Cena is because he's always "overcoming the odds" and he shouts all those silly slogans like "never give up!" He should still do that, but maybe sound a bit phony doing it. Like there is a writer scripting his promos. *cough*

Of course, him tearing into people for not giving him respect while he has been carrying the company is a must. As for an entourage? Maybe...but it'd have to be select people. One guy that would really work, is Drew McIntyre. The Mr. McMahon character also loves him, and as much as I do love me some Drew, he's not ready to headline WrestleMania himself yet. So this would be a good way to use Drew, while also getting him to work in the mid-card a fair bit more.

A random big guy would work for the group, too. Mason Ryan is a bit too green, but that sort of thing. Perhaps even Shad Gaspard or Vance Archer?

Basically, the idea is that Cena is tough enough on his own, but he's not got Mr. McMahon out there "protecting his investment." That way it becomes an even bigger deal when someone does "overcome the odds" against Cena, and captures the WWE Title.

That idea with Cena bringing McIntyre into the fold could definitely work. But hell, as long as he's not doing shit, maybe have Cena take Ted DiBiase under his wing for a while, give him a slight push while he's involved with Cena, maybe to the point of a decent IC title run. You could even book the "break-up" of such a group when the time would be appropriate for it, as simply as having Ted being sick of being in everyone's shadows since he was in Legacy/Priceless, only this time he does something about it and takes out Drew, and goes on to win a future RR match to face Cena for whichever world title he held, and have him finally fulfill his "destiny" as "The Fortunate Son" at WrestleMania.

When Austin turned heel at Mania 17, the first thing I thought was "how are they going to do this? The crowd will never boo him." They weren't even really booing him when he turned.

They caught on quickly enough. I thought Austin did fine as a heel. Cena is WAY less over than Austin was; half the crowd is already rooting against him anyways. I don't think it will be too hard to turn the other half against him.

As far as "why" goes, I think maybe there's a hope that a Cena heel turn will help refreshen a product that's been getting progressively staler since 2006.

i think the smarks will cheer him if he's heel and kids hating the guy, then merchandise sales will slip (imagine if they turn Mysterio heel then).i don't see WWE turning him heel in a loooooong time unless they going to do the unexpected.

You'd need him to lose a bit against someone, setting it up for the classic Cena beats the odds and it's cause of the WWE universe and his hustle and such bull. And when he finally beats the guy he goes on a rant about how he's realising that it's not the WWE universe giving him the drive to regain his championship, it's the WWE universe that's taking his focus and causing him to lose his championship in the first place!

Cue: insane winning streak with no respect to audiences and lots of heel things about Cena. Cementing his Superman side, whilst having him be a major heel.

Of course in my head this is all just the prelude to a Jericho face turn as he decides that he needs to prove to Cena just who is the best in the world at what Jericho does!

A heel Cena would have to be a monster like Triple H...I dunno, I'm cool with him being a babyface for the rest of his career actually.

The only way I could see him turning heel is after a long hiatus, coming back from injury and having his whole philosophy/attitude changed.

Is it too late to pull a Hollywood Cena angle?
