Roids..

So, MLB had an agreement w/ the MLBPA not to release names of people who failed drug testing.

Well, guess what... the Gov't doesn't need the ok from the MLBPA.

the MLBPA tried to negotiate w/ the Gov't to keep the list private and well, the Gov't got tired of dealing w/ the MLBPA and went and took the list.

My guess is, the Gov't will leak the list, seems all the info they get, gets leaked. Plus, I'd expect players who testified that said they didn't get roids, will get charged w/ purgery.

Going to be interesting how this turns out.

There are too many names on that list for them to leak.

They might leak some names but it won't be all of them by a long shot.

Yes, here's what shows how stupid some people really are.

Every single player knew they were being tested, heck, some even seemed to know when, and the CBA said that if more then 5% failed, they keep testing, well over 5% failed... now if you know your going to be tested, don't you take a little time off the stuff?

ie: Giambi, 20-30lbs of muscle, gone in 1 off-season... or as he says "I lost 4lbs because I stopped eating Taco Bell".

Maybe he changed his diet to the Atkins and starting using muscle supplements as well as hitting the gym 2 hours a day.

Yeah I know what you're thinking and I don't believe that tripe either. Just thought I'd say it before some other nimrod who uses the same arguement on pro wrestlers says it.

Nah, I was waiting for a certain baseball fan on here to tell me "GET OFF GIAMBI'S NUTS".

The current argument is, "well, it wasn't against the rules of MLB'. Silly me, I just assumed if it's against the law, baseball wouldn't need a rule..

Last year, every player in MLB was tested, but they were also given several weeks advance notice of the test. That's why it was such a surprise that enough players came up positive to elevate the testing.

Ironically, Minor Legaue baseball has had a very stringent, very consistent steroid policy in place for years.

As for releasing the list, considering several members of Congress and Dubya himself have done some posturing on getting steroids out of professional sports, and combined with the fact its an election year, it wouldn't shock me one bit if the names are "leaked."

not to sound ignorant, but what the fuck would you need steroids in baseball for anyway?

Where do you want to start?

Muscle = Strength = Power.

If used w/ the correct workout you can improve everthing from how hard you hit the ball, how far you throw it, to running speed and I've even see some roids given credit for helping eyesite allowing better hitting/fielding and of course reflexis.

how can roids make you faster? from what i've read up on it, after your muscles get a certain size, it'd hinder you athletically rather than help, which is why you don't see many huge soccer players.

All depends on what your using/doing.

Can help you drop weight, and build leg muscle, improve circulation, improve/speed up metabolism...

but of course, for every doctor that says "it can do" theres one that says "no it dont"

Correcting technique would be better. I mean, the people who hit balls the hardest aren't always the strongest, in any sport. Natural strength can help, but technique is a huge part of it. It seems particularly stupid to munch on the roids and become incredibly jacked up, since it wouldn't be too difficult to tell.

Problem is, when everyone does it, and some are natural, you blend...

anyway, just heard thet MLBPA wanted to take 10names off the list, out of all those players, just 10...

Anyone wanna start betting on who the 10 where?

I'll assume, Bonds, Giambi and Sheffield, simply because where they testified in the Balco Trial they'd also get nailed for purgery.

Good contact hitters become massive power hitters when they get older, like magically they develop superhuman strength It's funny. And yeah, it's not hard to tell.

Check out Luis Gonzales. Beanpole mother****er, all of a sudden hits 55 home runs after doing nothing his entire career.

Exactly. Take a look at tennis for instance. A guy like Pete Sampras was not very strong physically, but he could serve very hard. Ditto for Ivanisevic.

Andy Roddick won't be confused with Brock Lesnar anytime soon either.

p.s. Did you know that John Olreud couldn't even do two chin-ups a few years ago?

Baseball players aren't asked to be incredible athletes. If extra power equals, say 10-15 ft worth of extra distance, then you go from hitting having warning track power and being a 20 HR guy to being able to hit 40 plus and being a legit power threat. Baseball teams will gladly leave a guy in the lineup even if his limited athleticism makes him a defensive liability. Hell, in the American league he doesn't even have ot go in the outfileld. More homeruns equate to many millions more in your contract.

I'm not saying every guy who hits a ton of homeruns is on steroids, but some obviously are on something.

And I hope all these names come out. As so beautifully illustrated by South Park a few weeks ago, using steroids in baseball is just like cheating in the Special Olympics.

GW, as PuerHatred has mentioned, talked about roids in the State of the Union speech (for crying out loud) So you can bet these names will be leaked.

In some cases, like Giambi's, I think that the added strength hurt his overall performance. I mean, yeah he hit more home runs, but his average went to hell and he was so slow and bad at defense that he was pretty much a full time DH last year. I would think the Yankee's rather have a better all around player than a single-dimentional power hitter. Thats not the same with all cases.

As it goes with guys who are small and get bigger, I don't really think thats a huge deal. I wouldn't be surprised if Alphonso Soriano gets to be the size of Bonds in a couple years, that doesn't mean it has to be steroids. In Bonds case, I don't believe it was totally innocent, but its not like people only gain weight from steroids.

Wait now. In regards to Giambi, he has eye problems last year. Last year was his only bad year. While he sure looks to be on roids (or was??) to me, I won't say they are what caused his problems last year.

Like you said, guys like Soriano, Greene, these guys are somewhat slight and mash the ball.

Splendid splinters...

Eye problems likely added to it, but lack of speed due to increased mass likely was too.
