Eric Church
anyone else a fan of Eric Church
I love his newest album Chief ![]() Springsteen is perhaps one of the best country songs of 2012 I love it Bill Savage went over to the (Stu Hart) house and one of the Hart kids was running around with his hair wet. Savage asked why his hair was wet. Stu said, "the little bast--d broke a vase this morning, so I stuck his head in the toilet. Want me to show you again?" |

Not much of a country fan, but not bad.
Although I couldn't watch the second one, stupid region block. |

I didn't know there was a video to Homeboy. It's pretty good, I really do like that song.

Got to see Brantley Gilbert about 2 years ago at a local club/bar before he got huge and he was a hell of a show. Really love a lot of the country acts like this out there. Could listen to this style of country all day.

My cousin is married Eric Church's former tour manager. Thats partly how I got to go to the Ravens/Titans game in Nashville last year..He also worked with the WWE anytime they came to the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

I recommend everyone give a listen to Reckless Kelly and Whiskey Myers. Reckless Kelly is somewhat famous, and Whiskey Myers is an incredible young band working the Texas/Oklahoma circuit who I think has gotten some national exposure lately.

Also, I consider Luke Bryan a dirty pleasure to listen to.
This song is the story of my life on a Saturday night every once in awhile: |

Also, there is this little shithole bar a buddy and I go to quite a bit and I play this song on the jukebox at least twice like a jackass:

Not a big fan of the newer wave of country artist over the last 10 years or so with some exceptions. I do like a few Eric Church songs though. "Guys Like Me" is fun.

Modern country is now either Southern rock with extra "twang" or pop stuff like Taylor Swift. I didn't really listen to country music until I lived in a tiny town for a couple of years and it was the only radio station you could pick up, so most modern country fits into what I listened to (Southern rock, alt rock, etc.)

I've noticed I really enjoy songs that glorify binge drinking or drinking when stressed...that can't be good.

I just get tired of the whole "I'M DAYUM PROUD TO BE COUNTRY!" vibe. It's fine if it comes off naturally but it doesn't with most of them. "Country Man", "She's Country", "Holler Back"... just very easy.

Well, it is just taking advantage of the chip on the shoulder most small town/"country" folk have from having everyone shit all over them forever. I remember when "redneck" was semi-offensive to some people and now it is like a badge of defensive swagger. I've been around the region enough to know how much hidden anger and bitterness there is toward "city folk" from most people who live out in the sticks. They honestly feel like people look down on them.

Oh, it's definitely taking advantage of the market. I can't blame them for it. It's just pigeon holed the genre into this stereotypical stuff that all sounds way too similar because all people need to hear is something about "country" and they cream in their jeans.
It's relatively new. Like... pre-2004-ish it was more of a novelty to hear country-pride stuff. Now it's basically necessary if you want to succeed and everyone sounds the same. |
