Sharing Files/Folders over a network
Okay here's the story. I have two computers, a desktop computer and a laptop. I currently am using a wireless router to connect to the internet so that my laptop can connect to the internet as well. The router is a D-Link router. The operating system on my desktop computer is Windows 2000 Pro, and the operating system on my laptop is Windows XP Pro. Now, i'm trying to find a way so that I can access my files that are on my desktop PC while using my laptop.
I found this guide on the internet that looked good so I gave it a try. http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net-update.asp Everything was going fine but i'm at this step right now: http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net-share-2000.asp I'm having trouble on the part/section called: User Security - IMPORTANT It says "An account needs to be created for each uniqe 'login' name on your network. For instance, if you log into a Windows 98 computer with the login name 'ted', then you must create a Windows 2000 login called 'ted'. " The only user account ( main logon) on my desktop PC( windows 2000) is called "sadiq" The only user account on my laptop ( windows xp pro) is called "sadiqm" So does that mean on windows 2000 i must make an account called "sadiqm" and make a "sadiq" account on Windows XP? Either way I tried this out anyway and when i turned on my laptop it recognized the other computer on the network. When I tried to click on the icon I got this message: \\Cr433125-a is not accessable. You might not have premission to use this network resource. Contact that adminstrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. logon failure: The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer So what should I do from here??? Cheers EDIT/UPDATE: Okay so i made sure to have the same login information on both computers. Laptop: username: sadiqm password: well its a password thats all i will say ![]() Now, on my desktop computer username: sadiqm but I have no password set at all for this computer. Now, when i did this,i go onto my laptop and it finds the other computer ( desktop computer) on the network. When i double click on it i am asked for name and password, i type in my name and password and nothing appears at all. I just get an error message saying i have no access to the network. Why is this happening? Last edited by sadio8; 01-01-2008 at 12:22 PM. |
