Torrent Issues...

Hiya, I'm hoping someone on here will be able to help me.

For the past 2 days I haven't been able to download torrents, regardless of what site I try using or what client I use I'm not getting speeds above 0.2Kb/s. I'm on a 2meg connection and usually get speeds of around 150kb/s.

First off I thought it was just a problem with the trackers, but my brother is still downloading everything fine. Then I thought it could be something wrong with my PC so I tried using my laptop and it's still happening.

I've disabled all firewalls and am allowing all traffic, but it hasn't made a difference

I'm still getting good speeds while browsing the internet, or while downloading anything directly off a site, it's just the torrents that aren't downloading...

Please help, I don't know what the problem is???

I'm using uTorrent, but I've tried loads of different ones (BitComet, ABC, Azuerus and even the official BitTorrent client. But nothing seems to make a difference. I'm beginning to think it's more to do with my ISP throttling my downloads, with concidering it's unlimited usage, they shouldn't be doing.

Yeah, but they are probably doing it anyway, try changing which ports you use.

Using uTorrent I've set it up to change to a random port everytime the program starts, but it doesn't make a difference.

I've read up on TalkTalk and apparently I'm not the first to have this problem, there are others, like me, that for the first month of usage their downloads were fine then all of a sudden their downloads just died because TalkTalk throttled their limit. I'm going to phone them in the morning and try to sort it out, I've only been with them for a month so if they don't sort it out I'll just cancel.

Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.

Well first things first. Make sure that obviously there are seeders for whatever torrent file(s) you may be downloading.

If there are seeders for whatever torrent file you are getting, chances are you ISP may have "capped" bittorrent to basically just reduce the download speeds of it.

Only things I can think of!

I don't know much about torrents and I am having the same problem. I try downloading something that has a lot of seeders and it's so slow. A lot of times it just stops for minutes at a time.

Even on LimeWire nothing seems to want to download. This is fucked.

depending on where you get the torrent(s) from you might need to upload to get higher download speeds.

My guess is if you are having problems with limewire and bit torrent then either you ISP is doing something, or your network/internet connections is messed up or if you have a firewall or something like that, it could be messing it up too.

Check the settings for your bittorrent client and make sure everything is okay ( or try to set it back to its default settings). Also, for Bit Torrent, try to change the port number if you can, and see if that does anything!

Yeah, a lot of the time if you are downloading a crapload, your ISP gets all gay and tries to slow your speed down. I suggest threatening to switch ISPs.

I don't know what an ISP is or how to change it or the effects of changing it. All I know is that I cannot download shit and even seach for fuck all. Limewire is being such a bitch.

ISP = Internet Service Provider ( company that provides you with a connection to the internet).

ISP has control over your connection to the Internet so if it is indeed the ISP that is "capping" your torrents then you are out of options I'm afraid ( to my knowledge).

Yeah, ISP are companies like Earthlink, Comcast, Telus, etc.

Also, usually, when call to complain and threaten to change service (make sure you sound angry, but stay calm) they will offer you some kind of peace offering.
