One match...

If you had to pick one match from a promotion that personified it, what would it be. This doesn't have to be the best match (let's face it, some of the all time classics wern't even good) but it has to be the iconification of a particular promotion...

NWA: Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat from Wrestle War

WWE: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant from WrestleMania

WCW: Sting vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan from Starccade (or maybe Kevin Nash vs. Goldberg from Starccade)

ECW: Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn from Hardcore Heaven

TNA: Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles vs. Raven from Weekley PPV

I'll do two eras of the WWE, the mid-late 80s "Mania" era and the Attitude Era

80s: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant
Attitude: Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels

Because let's face it, had that match never happened, the Mr. McMahon character would never have come to be such a success as it did if it weren't for the Survivor Series match.

Power Era:

NYR 2006 Elimination Chamber Match and maybe subsequent Edge victory... after two spears.

Because it shows, in one match, how the past five years have been full of nonsensical pushes, characters being rammed down people's throats, title victories that don't look credible, credible people getting buried, and the audience getting screwed.

WWE- Hulk Hogan v Ultimate Warrior @ Mania VI(personifies the entertainment over wrestling style of the company)

WCW- The Outsiders v Sting, Savage, Luger: Bash at the Beach 1996 (shows how WCW main events were often overbooked. Memorable for the Hogan heel turn)

ECW- Taz v Sabu: Barely Legal(shows the hardcore, technical styles of ECW wrestling and the grittier storylines)

TNA- Jeff Jarret v Kevin Nash/Rhyno/Christian Cage/AJ Styles/etc (best example of TNA booking and how the main events usually are overbooked clusterfucks)

NWA- Ric Flair v Ricky Steamboat: Any of the three matches from 1989 (shows how the NWA(well the Mid-Atlantic territory at its height) was about wrestling)

WWF: Federation Years: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant - WrestleMania 3

-It's pretty much the definining moment in wrestling: Hogan getting Andre up over his head and body slamming him in front of a record breaking attendance, dropping the leg and taking the WWF Championship at the biggest show of the year. Just awesome.

WWF: Attitude Era: Stone Cold vs. The Rock - WrestleMania 15

-There wasn't a bigger angle during the Attitude Era than Austin vs. McMahon, and WrestleMania XV was the culmination of that feud (even if some people claim that feud didn't really end until WrestleMania 17). It was the end of a great year for the WWF in which they retook their spot as the greatest wrestling promotion in the United States (according to the Nielsens, anyways) and drew record numbers and record sales for Austin, Rock, and DX merchandising.

WWE: Get the F Out Era: Triple H vs. John Cena - WrestleMania 22

-This match shows what the WW-"E" era has been all about: namely, The Game, Triple H. Despite obvious ratings spikes for an Edge WWE Championship run, and the obvious idea of making the rematch the main event of WrestleMania (instead of the main event of some forgettable RAW), Triple H went ahead with their plans and put himself in a one-on-one match with John Cena that nobody wanted to see. It seems like the company is going to continue on this road for a long time to come. The match was more or less a disaster and certainly didn't deserve to be the main event of the biggest show of the year.

WCW: Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs. Goldberg - WCW Championship - Nitro 98

-This match shows the brilliance and idiocy of the WCW booking committee. They recognized that Bill Goldberg was red hot as the undefeated United States Champion and that he was getting huge reactions from the fans. They also realized that Hulk Hogan had grown stale and the fans were beginning to turn over to the WWF for more compelling entertainment. The Goldberg title switch was a great idea, and that night on Nitro, it was pulled off brilliantly, and many people thought we were watching the dawning of a new day in WCW. A day when Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash wouldn't be at the top of every card. We were wrong. This match defines WCW because it was a great decision as far as storylines went, but a horrible decision as far as money making went (by not promoting or putting the match on PPV, they lost millions), and the way they handled Goldberg after the title change was horrendous, and arguably, led to their eventual destruction.

ECW: Terry Funk vs. Raven - ECW World Title - Barely Legal 97

-ECW was gaining huge momentum and it was obvious that WCW and WWF were taking notice by their more violent, adult aimed wrestling angles. At this PPV, the first in ECW history, Terry Funk defeated Stevie Richards and Tommy Dreamer in a 3-way dance to earn a shot at Raven for the title. In an amazing moment, Funk pinned Raven and took the ECW World Title. This embodies ECW because the angle of the old man vs. the young punk was just awesome and it was revolutionary in the wrestling business. Also, this kind of made ECW seem more legitimate, with a legend like Terry Funk winning their world title.

TNA: Christian Cage vs. Jeff Jarrett - Against All Odds 06 -

-Even if it wasn't a great match by any means, this match embodies TNA for one reason: TNA is a company where guys who could never, or would never, get a break in the WWE can show what they're made of. TNA gives people like AJ Styles, Petey Williams, Abyss, Bobby Roode, and Samoa Joe a chance to show their skills to the world, and they don't tell them what their skills are or how they ought to use them. Christian winning the NWA Title shows that there is no glass ceiling in TNA, and right now, I think that sets them apart from WWE in a huge way.
