gamespot.com is stupid
![]() 1. How did No Mercy only score 7.7? 2. How did Smackdown get an 8.7? 3. How was Smackdown rated better than No Mercy? No Mercy is most likely the best wrestling game ever made. I know it's all opinion, but most people will agree. Looking back, which game do you think is better, and overall what is your favorite wrestling game. I've enjoyed WCW vs nWo Revenge and WWF No Mercy about equally. I think I'd have to give it to Revenge though for sentimental reasons. I can't really pick which one is better though. |

No Mercy was the best wrestling game ever. Smackdown was relatively awful.

Even on these boards, Smackdown was considered the better game by at least a majority. I don't know why, but Hell....

I don't always necessarily agree with A LOT of GameSpot.com's reviews, but I have learned that it seems IGN does a lot better with it's reviews. For instance, Exhibit A, compared with Exhibit B, you can clearly see that IGN has No Mercy as the winner in this hotly contested clash of the video game titans, as it scores a 9, compared to an 8.8 for SmackDown! so the moral of this story: IGN should be trusted more often than GameSpot because at least they have common sense.

For some reason I still think WWF War Zone is one the best wrestling games ever made, I still enjoy playing it.

IMO Day of Reckoning is the best wrestling game.

It's not just gamespot. Reviewers in general were saying Smackdown was better. They were wrong, but yeah.

I think it's because the Arcade-style can be accessible to more people. It was easier to just pick up and play, whereas something like No Mercy or even the later SmackDown! games had more strategy involved.

No Mercy (actually, its predecessor, WCW vs nWo: World Tour) took 15 - 20 minutes tops to get into. SvR '06 took me longer.

How long did it take you to get into the original SmackDown!, with the one button, four move grapple system, punches, blocking, and specials? Essentially, you had about 15 moves TOTAL (including punches, etc) in the original.

The games came out 6 months apart. If No Mercy was first, they would have given it the higher score. But since SmackDown came first, with it's more detailed graphics (one of the two deciding factors that gave it a higher score), new season mode, and other features are what they gave the 10 tilt score to (the other factor that gave it the higher rating). No Mercy, although better, didn't step up the graphics, gameplay, or sound from Wrestlemania 2000 as much as it should have. They aren't saying they are bad, but compared to the standards at the time, they weren't as great. If you look at the details, they give No Mercy a 9 value which means that you'll enjoy the game more/longer than you would SmackDown.
Plus, because of the time difference, an 8.7 (which SmackDown got) wouldn't be the same value if it had come out when No Mercy did. It would have been lower and the scores would have been much closer. |
