Yeh, the title isn't necessarily on the line. I don't know how this qualified as a title match though, I don't understand UFC's criteria for determining who is a number one contender, seeing as how Rampage has only had a couple fights in UFC and hasn't done particularly well.

And Chuck was champ for about two years. Which is insanely long in the world of MMA.

I think it works about the same as WWE, only you have Dana White instead of Vince McMahon.

Does Dana ever fight. I also think it is funny because my girlfriends name is Dana...well Dayna, but pronounced the same way.

Dana White was supposed to have a boxing match with Tito Ortiz, but Ortiz backed out. I guess he used to be an amateur boxer and was very good, and then became a boxing promoter, and then part of the group that bought UFC.

And I'm guessing the reasoning behind making this a title match was because Rampage beat him before, and the $$$ and draw would be higher for a title match between the two. But Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie was a big draw when Hughes was champ, but it wasn't a title match. So I dont know.

Gracie vs. Hughes wasn't at the 170lbs limit. So obviously can't be a title match.

Heavyweight - 206-265lbs.
Light-heavyweight - 186-205lbs.
Middleweight - 171-185lbs.
Welterweight - 156-170lbs.
Lightweight - 136-155lbs.

You can weigh in one pound overweight if the fight is not a title fight because they give you a pound because of the accuracy of the scales. In title fights, there is no excuse.

You can be underweight and fight up in class, you just can't be overweight fighting down. Hughes was welterweight champ tho, and he may have been overweight, so I don't know for sure.

Gracie wasn't underweight. He was overweight. Didn't matter anyway because they had always planned to fight at a catch weight 175lbs and both Hughes and Gracie made that weight.

There's actually a flyweight class (145lbs and under) but the UFC has deactivated/merged it with the lightweight class. Other groups still have flyweight classes though.

120's would be flyweights (or whatever name the organization give a weight class of about 145 and below)...300lbs would be a superheavyweight, or something of the like, depends on how the organization classifies it. I don't think the UFC has either as a specific division. If you were 120 you could compete in the 155lb Lightweight Division, I don't think they'd let a 300 pounder fight a typical heavyweight though.

You can't fight in the UFC under 136lbs now. They made the weight divisions in the WEC because of this.

You can't fight in the UFC over 265lbs period. Nevada State doesn't allow it.

What other states allow it? I know Nevada and California doesn't and they are the biggest two for MMA right now. And UFC abides by all Nevada laws. If they did something not in line with Nevada laws, even if it's in England, they would have their license revoked.

Superheavyweight boxing matches are different rulings.

How would there Nevada license be revoked for a competition outside the jurisdiction of Nevada? UFC would win a lawsuit at the federal level vs. Nevada if that happened, Nevada can't govern international law.

Now, UFC may place those restrictions on itself. BUT, King of the Cage, for example, a promotion BASED IN NEVADA, has a superheavyweight division of fighters starting at 265lbs and up.

Additionally, KOTC also has a Bantomweight Class (136-145) and Flyweight Class (135 and under).

Ron Waterman didn't fight in the UFC under Zuffa ownership. And they never were license by Nevada State before then.

Still, UFC may have set their own weight limits under the Dana White era but they do not correlate to any state laws. KOTC operates under the same state laws and they allow for weight classes above heavyweight and below lightweight.
