problem with XP

it's kind of weird, when I boot my computer up to normal mode it works fine untill I want to use a microsoft based program (IE,Outlook, even my computer or control panel) once I open one of those it uses 100% computer usage and it doesn't freeze but I can't do anything. any suggestions? and yes I did the latest updates.

which virus did it detect?

if it found more than 1, it might be a good idea to reinstall XP.
