wrestlers NEED gimmicks

IMO one of the wrestling has become bland is the lack of 'colorful characters'.
in a gimmick lies a motivation of a character. like back in the day, Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase-his motivation was to make all us average people feel like dirt.
now, when i say wrestlers NEED gimmicks, i'm not saying it has to be something over-the-top. im not saying i wanna see a f-ucking pig farmer. it can be as simple as being an arrogant a-hole.

i think that instead of "im such an unstopable badass," HHH's gimmick should be "im the boss' son-in-law and i can get whatever i want." that would make for good heel heat and great television.

I agree, I miss gimmicks, but to be honest. Saying that gimmicks should be brought back is easy, Try coming up with an idea for a gimmick that would entertain the majority of this board, you'll find that it is considerably harder.

There are gimmicks still in wrestling, dumbass. What about Hurricane and Rosey as superheros, is that not a gimmick? What about Kane as a psychopathic monster, is that not a gimmick? What about Teddy Long, Mark Henry, Jazz, and Rodney Mack as racists, is that not a gimmick? John Cena as a white rapper, is that not a gimmick? What about Evolution being the future of wrestling, is that not a gimmick? What about Eddie I can't spell his last name as being the biggest Mexican sterotype ever, is that not a gimmick? What about FBI being mafia, is that not a gimmick?

Everything WWE has is gimmicked to hell execpt the jerks you don't execpt on Sunday Night Heat or Velocity, they are their because their gimmick a) suck b)don't exist c) are jobbers used for one show.

If that's the case, i think HBK needs to turn heel. I love him and think he's one of the all time greatest. But right now, besides having good matches, he's not doing anything to keep me interested.

But not the "I was once a god fearing guy who has decided that you people (the fans) are evil and must redeem yourselves. I will force you to go to church and other things that Vince McMahon thinks average people don't do." The old WWE would immediately do this for his heel turn and I'm a little afraid that this is the "edgieness" that they think brings in the money. They did it once before with the "Right to Censor" thing and that got to be stupid as hell.

"characters" are more important than "gimmick." The difference: a good character doesn't get old. For example, Chris Jericho could say Jericho-ish things a year from now and still get over. A year from now, Cena's act is going to be stale and tired.

A man in his mid to late thirties playing a cocky, immature, juvenile prick is kind of sad. See Kevin Nash. HBK could be a heel w/o being that kind of heel.

The guys dont necessarily need gimmicks like "I'm a plumber" and "I'm a tax man", but they do need some characters like Austin Rock Foley and others had. There's a difference. We've talked about before that all the new guys tend to look the same nowadays and as a result they all look the same and none of them get over.

In terms of the Million $ Man, he makes a return tonight on Smackdown.

Even Benoit has a gimmick; his is that of the intense, pissed-off Canadian guy that always gets screwed over... a gimmick he has built up over the years, but really took off after that Commissioner Foley reversal of a title decision against The Rock.

thats actually what i meant. wrestlers need to be 'colorful characters'. for example, Christian has no 'gimmick' per say, but he is entertaining because he is a colorful character.

I agree that the wrestlers need gimmicks and this is what I would want to see whether they got a gimmick or not, is name changes. Nowadays all of the wrestlers use they're real names, or a realistic name. The only ones that I can think of off the top of my head as having character names are Rhyno, Triple H, Big Show, and Booker T to name a few. Maybe some of the guys now are too new to have a gimmick name, but just too many non character names like Garrison Cade and Orlando Jordan.

There are superstars that get over with bland or no gimmicks at all, take Chris Benoit for example; no gimmick needed. Chris benoit is one of those guys who's over by sheer wrestling ability which makes him a TRUE wrestler. Desptie not having a gimmick, he has a personality which is where his charisma comes from.

That's a problem with some of WWE's up and coming superstars from OVW, a lot of them have no gimmick, no personality, and no pseudonyms; I'm tired of guys with really long names and no nickname. The Bashams, Garrison Cade, Shelton Benjamin, etc. are examples. Though I believe WWE will build Shelton Benjamin's charisma and personality gradually.

Wrestling needs personalities and colorful characters. People are bland right now. There are some people with personalities, but more and more, it becomes a question of "huh?"

I can understand people like cade and Jindrak having no persona when they first entered. Why they STILL have fuck all for personality is beyond me.

Haas and Benjamin also need some personality. I appreciate them for their wrestling talent, but without a personality, it's hard to get into them in sports ENTERTAINMENT. Even Benoit has a level of personality.

The RTC got to be stupid as Hell because it was another one of the WWE's attempts to exercise their demons.

They were doing it t basically whine about the PTC and get people on their side. It was lame and dumb because of the lack of thought and entertainment value.

I bet they oculd do it better if they tried, but there was almost NO motivation in that angle for them to do so.
