AJ Styles Comments On McCool Using "Styles Clash"
There has been quite a bit of discussion online as of late regarding Michelle McCool using the "Styles Clash" finisher popularized by AJ Styles of rival promotion TNA Wrestling. The WWE Women's Champion has come under fire for using the maneuver, so much so that she has spoken out online a few times defending herself against outraged wrestling fans. Regarding Styles' take on the situation, he is "cool" with the WWE Diva using his signature maneuver after discussing the matter with friend and former co-worker Gail Kim.

"Gail Kim's one of my really good friends, and I asked her about that and we talked about it and she (McCool) does do my move, but I'm flattered that she would think to use that move. It doesn't bother me at all," Styles told IGN.com in an interview promoting his appearance on MTV's MADE this weekend. "I guess it might be different if a guy was doing it and calling it something else."

Styles feels "there's not a lot of moves in the world," so he understands fellow wrestlers using one of his own.

"It's hard to be different. But it's cool with me," Styles said. "Now it would be different if it was a guy in my own company."

Styles follows the last quote by criticizing John Morrison, feeling he copies "everyone else's move and hasn't come up with one." However, Styles feels the WWE wrestler performs them well, so he has no real problem with him.

"But there is that one dude. What's his name? I'm like, good grief, this guy does everyone else's move and hasn't come up with one," Styles said. "He's a heck of an athlete. Morrison. Yeah, I've seen him do a lot of Low Ki's moves. He does my Spiral Tap. I was like, 'Man, this guy watches a lot of tape.' But he does them well, so I can't say anything bad about him. He does them well. He's heck of an athlete."

Depends. If the guy is trying to get famous off the back of the move (Hi Petey) then it's shitty to start doin his move, but otherwise whatever. I thinks it's direspectful to take a guy's move (asuming he made it) before he's made a name for himself. Now after he has (like AJ has) then fuck it. No big, her usuing it isn't gonna hurt AJ at all.

So they actually call it the 'Styles clash' on WWE TV? Just thinking there are a lot of moves out their with people's names attached to them and surely it's a good thing that they are a nod in the direction of the person who innovated it.

Like he said, there is only a certain number of moves in the world. Most finishing moves now have been copied from someone else. Look how many people use the Diamond Cutter in various forms nowadays (although I have no idea if DDP invented it or copied it from someone else).

If you create a new move, then it's going to be copied sooner or later.

It doesn't. Only thing I can think of is that they named it that due to her bottoms usually having the word "FAITH" on the waistband or down the side of the legs or some such.

Well it's not like any one company owns the rights to any specific moves or anything. If that were the case there'd be no WWE or TNA (or ROH or CZW or DG, etc., etc.). Yes, it's a good thing to have wrestlers who can introduce new moves to the ring every once in a great while, but if one or two wrestlers happen to share the same moves then so what, as long as they don't compete for the same company, and/or as long as they're not both male/female competitors...

I agree with you, but I think out of respect to the 'Originator' the move should be called his/her name for it, by all users of the move.

I.E - McCool should have to call it the Styles Clash. People would wonder why, and AJ's name will be brought up which is good for AJ and deserving, considered he brought the move in.

I sort of see what you're saying, but you must be pretty high if you think WWE would give the rub to anyone outside of their own company. It's really not that big of a deal unless AJ went out and got an actual trademark put on the maneuver...which I doubt he could really do anyway.

And if "faith" or "faith breaking" had anything to do with McCool's persona or (non-existent) gimmick, that would be a great explanation. It sounds like a MOrdecai finisher, not an "angry, skinny bitch" finisher.
