How to speed up my internet
My ethernet connection here at college can run that Modern Warfare 2 game on Playstation without any lag for hours on end but can't properly load a YouTube video on my computer without having to stop and buffer like 20 times. Why would this happen, is there something "blocking" it from reaching its full potential

Might be port related, but honestly Youtube has been like that for me off and on lately. Some days it works great. High speeds, etc.. Other days it goes horribly slow. And I have an 8 meg download line, so it should be going pretty quickly.

if you had 87 bajillion people trying to stream from you, you'd be slow too
Think of it like this: Youtube is a computer. A SUPER FAST computer. And every user currently online counts as a program. The more people online, the slower the computer. in translation: Youtube is a server. A super SLOW server. And every user currently online uses some bandwidth. The more people online, the more bandwidth being used, the slower videos load. Last edited by G; 12-02-2009 at 05:33 PM. |

Youtube does seem slower than usual but I noticed that it is much, much, much more slower when you select HD. And even when you click HD I see like almost no difference in quality at all in most of the videos nowadays. Maybe it's the same for you. So if you're trying to watch in HD you are better off with HQ for now.

Nah it is not a problem with YouTube. They load perfectly fine on my roomate's computer. Any streaming video goes slow pretty much. The internet is just generally slow. Way slower than when I am at home, and it's still a cable connection.

I was just going to make a thread on this. Sometimes videos will load about 10 seconds and stop. I could leave it for an hour and it wouldn't progress at all.

When I get this I refresh a few times and it works fine.
Though yeah, sometimes I do get videos that are slower for loading or just won't load at all unless I restart my browser, sometimes not even then. Must have to do with the server it's on. |
