Pro-wrestling may be coming to a theater near you. WWE brass has been discussions with movie theater event company Fathom Events to bring Wrestlemania 27 to theaters across the nation…in 3D.
Though the news is purely at the rumor stage, WWE discussions with Fathom are ongoing as each company haggles over revenue. WWE wants 47% of Pay-Per-View (PPV) revenue while Fathom wants a larger cut of the action. WWE also wants a reported 60-70% of revenue from theaters as well.
Fathom has aired specials in theaters such as New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Riff Trax movies from the makers of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and more political-skewed entertainment from the likes of Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck.
With the launch of the ESPN 3D network, many wondered how long it would be before 3D technology at home would really take off. Well despite some 3D World Cup matches, 3D home entertainment and the sale of 3D TVs have been lackluster. Many point to the cost of the sets while others say they’ll wait for glasses-free 3D sets to arrive.
While 3D at home is still lagging, 3D at the movie theater is booming.
So what, about $100 bucks a ticket? HD is $70 as it is for wrestlemania.
Seeing it in 3D in a possibly crowded theatre might be fun though. We have a fathom capable theatre here too, but they wont do Glenn Beck's shows for some reason.
Seriously though, Money in the Bank could be pretty sweet in 3D if done right. I can see guys flying over the top rope off a ladder and into the camera all 3D style.
Not sure, but I think this would require them bringing in like a whole crap load of equipment, possibly a whole different production truck (or two), not to mention people who actually know how to work the equipment.
Unless it isn't live or something. If it isn't live, then they can probably just convert to 3D afterwards.
I never seen a 3D movie in theaters nor can I recall paying for a WWE PPV but if I didn't have to go out my way to find a theater and it was like 20 bucks, I would think about going.
I watched Saw3D... 3D isn't all that it's made out to be. This would be interesting... but the ticket price for it... definitely would not be worth it.
If the presentation is any good, it will be around come Wrestlemania 28. If it sticks around and I hear good things, I'd give it a chance then. But I don't think I'd go into it this year knowing nothing.
Seeing it with a huge crowd would also be fun, of course.

No, that was like a month prior. What sucked for WWE was they had just debuted the new WWF Championship and new logo for WWF RAW. Now, they had to get a new belt made and chop the F off of everything and fuck up their production of DVDs and stuff. There are several instances of "WWE" logos on packaging but the actual product is still "WWF".
