Meets the system requirements specified by Microsoft... but I know about as much as formatting a hard drive as you do.

Reformating XP is pretty easy so you shouldn't have to much of a problem. What you do is:

1. Put in your CD in your drive and wait for installation menu to come up
2. Choose "Install Windows XP"
3. There will be a bunch of steps come up and from the drop down menu chose "New Installation (Advanced)" The computer will do the rest.

That should do it.

Wait, I'm not sure if you want to reformat or to format before you install windows. If you aren't looking to reformat and just do a plain format you do this:

1. Put in the disc and restart your computer.
2. If your computer restarts and boots the disk you can follow the instructions on the screen to format.

If you're computer doesn't boot from the disc do the following steps:
3. You will need to enter your BIOs so when your computer is restarting you have to press 1 of 3 buttons. They are either F1, F10, or DEL. (You may have to restart up to 3 times in order to find which one works) Continue to press them until from start up to when your desktop is shown and if your BIOs don't come up (you will know when they do) it's not the right button.
4. Once your BIOs are up look through them for a "Boot" menu. It will be like "Boot First" "Boot Second" etc and should have the likes of a drop down menu with the choices "Floppy", "CD-ROM", "HDD". For the first boot chose CD and save your bios. You will then go to the menu in step 2. Just follow the directions.

You will probably want to go back into your BIOs after you've installed and change back your first boot option.

Good luck.

k I usually use a 98se boot disk to format with cause I like to get in there in dos and do it all manually but you can do it with the standard XP installation CD just as easily. The procedure is as follows:
Boot the computer with the XP CD (go into your bios as above and change the boot order to boot from the CD first) and allow setup to begin. When you come to the screen where you select the drive partition you should see the drive listed, If the drive was in use previously, you'll need to delete all the existing partitions. To do this you'll have to hit 'D' followed by the 'L'. The screen instructions will be visible to guide the process.

Once all the existing partitions are deleted the display will show the total unpartitioned disk space.

Hit the 'C' key to create a partition. If you only want one partition then hit enter and the entire disk space will be allocated to the C Drive, it will be a NTFS file system, assuming the drive is 32GB or larger.

Once the partition have been created, use the 'Up' arrow key to select the C drive partition to install XP on.

that should be it.
