Brock Lesnar returns to wrestling...

...in Japan.

At last, Brock Lesnar advances on the New Japan ring! Chono today formally announced that former WWE Heavyweight Champion, Lesnar, will have his return match on 10/8 at the Tokyo Dome! Chono said Lesnar has chosen New Japan as his returning point in pro wrestling, and New Japan would like to express their gratitude to him. Although his match isn't decided yet, Lesnar is very interested in the IWGP Heavyweight Title, but Chono may stand in his way, saying that as G1 champion and being in some of the best form of his career, he doesn't believe Lesnar is as qualified as he is. Chono again insisted he wanted the title on 10/8, which could lead to complications on who will challenge... unless that is, Fujita can't make the show due to his injury, in which case something else might happen. There are many questions, but just when it seemed Lesnar's appearance in January would lead to nothing, the man perceived as American pro wrestling's strongest fighter in Japan is set to advance on the Japanese industry leader at the Tokyo Dome!

So wait, I thought it was against his contract to wrestler or fight in any boxing, wrestling, or MMA promotion in the world until like 2011... How is he getting by that, or is he just basically saying 'fuck you, I'll do what I want'?

The One... Brock is ALOT more talented than Goldberg. It doesn't say much, but don't insult the guy THAT much.

SO yeah, I guess the negotiations back a few months ago were to at least work out the no compete clause.

Come on...all the cool kids are saying it.

No I seriously can't say Brock Lesnar is talented. His only good matches (unless someone wants to remind me of ones I blocked out of my mind) were with Angle, and let's face it, Kurt Angle could wrestle a match stick on a sick day and make it a better match then most wrestlers could wrestling an actual person on their best day.

Hell Nash/Goldberg was better then Lesnar/Goldberg...now what does that tell you?

Lesnar/Taker HitC
Lesnar/Guerrero
Lesnar/Rock
Lesnar & Paul Heyman/Edge
Lesnar/Big Show (stretcher match)

The real problem is that most of his PPV matches were against Kurt Angle, so to rule them out cuts this list short.

It tells you that WWE fucked up the storyline, that Goldberg sucks and Lesnar just didn't give a shit anymore.

Hell Lesnar carried Big Show to a good match, and you know that to get a good match out of show you have to carry him kicking and screaming. Lesnar's matches always had my attention (the fact that I've seen him live doing shooting stars and 450's at house shows doesn't hurt). Brock is a tremendous worker who I think adapted quicker to wrestling than anyone else (sans Kurt Angle). Kurt and Brock worked an incredible Iron Man match (was live for that too bitches) and Brock vs Booker T was great too. I will say they he was gifted to have very capable opponents where most wrestlers don't have that luxury.

Add that to the matches already listed above and I think that shows Brock was incredibly gifted. To have that many great matches in that short of a carear is an accomplishment in my opinion.

Hell Kurt's first few months were nothing but boring dry matches.

Now just for the record I'm not saying Brock was as good or even close to as good as the likes of Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Jerry Lynn, Lance Storm Dean Malenko or Kurt Angle (there's a lot of names I could list, Hayabusa, Jericho, Eddie, or Owen for example; so I just chose my favorites), but I do think that he is a very talented worker.

Hayabusa? I feel bad for the guy for suffering a career ending neck injury while trying to entertain the fans and make a living but he is not in the same league as those other wrestlers. I respect him for all he has done to entertain the fans but from what I have seen he was Japan's version of Sabu. Except he never appeared to have any control over his high risk offence or flips and he always seemed to land off kilter or land awkwardly on his opponents. Just no grace in the air but a lot of balls.

That is my mistake, I wrote Hayabusa while watching my ECW dvd. I will agree with your statements though I did think that he had a bit more grace than Sabu and that he added his high risk offense to the course of a match when it was somewhat logistic. The wrestler I meant to write was Jinsei Shinsaki. I stand corrected.

That brings out the same possible argument that Kurt does. Benoit could wrestle a broom to an epic 5 star match. I don't think Brock hurt that match, and do indeed think he helped it, but fact is the match could have been made barable by any generic opponent when facing Chris or Kurt.

The Cerebral Assassin has done some stupid things
--Just for more on the Brock Lesnar deal and to clarify everything. New Japan has not announced Lesnar on the 10/8 Tokyo Dome show officially. Masahiro Chono, however, talked about Lesnar being on the Tokyo Dome show earlier today when he was at the airport for a flight to Germany (his wife is a native German who he met while wrestling early in his career for Otto Wanz). The Lesnar/WWE lawsuits regarding Lesnar's non-compete clause until 2010 are still ongoing, which makes the story even more perplexing. On the surface, this doesn't seem to be the best judgment to do something like this in the middle of ongoing litigation.

The wrestler I meant to write was Jinsei Shinsaki. I stand corrected.
As someone who has a lot of puro tapes, with hundreds of hayabusa matches between all of them, I have to say that I would definitly include Hayabusa on that list. Especially over Jinsei Shinzaki. Not a knock on "Hakushi", or anything. I like him too. But Hayabusa was amazing. Yes there were times when he landed awkwardly, but I've never seen anyone land perfect everytime. Especially when Shooting stars, 450's, and phoenix splashes are concerned. There is also the fact that he had such a versitale style in the ring. He could wrestle a guy any size, and adapt to that style of match. With mysterio all you got was high-flying. With bret, all you got was technical. With Foley you get brawling, and hardcore. But with Hayabusa, he could wrestle all these styles, and mix them together in a match, flawlessly. That's why I put him in a legendary category.

Wait, what was this thread about?

The Lesnar/WWE lawsuits regarding Lesnar's non-compete clause until 2010 are still ongoing, which makes the story even more perplexing. On the surface, this doesn't seem to be the best judgment to do something like this in the middle of ongoing litigation.

Good god. Chono is becoming the next Antonio Inoki.

WWE may be using New Japan as a OWW type thing.

No.

Inoki's ego is too big for that.

If anything, Vince is allowing Lesnar to make a breif run in Japan, with the agreement that he will return to WWE afterwards.
