Weis back in NFL?
NFL.com and ESPN reported that an unamed NFL team wants Charlie Weis as their head coach. Rumors are that its either St. Louis, Oakland, Houston or Minnesota. Do you all think Weis should leave N.D. and go back to the NFL as a head coach?

There's no way that's happening.

0% chance of him going back. especially if they make a BCS bowl in his first year.

Ya know.. I'd agree with everything above... except for one thing... it's Weis.
You need to understand Charlie. He never really played football. He went to ND and sat in the stands for every single game. Charlie almost died 2yrs ago, he had gastric bypass, because he felt being as heavy as he was, hurt his chance of being a head coach. More then once it was rumored that Belicheck put a "gag order" on him, because he got to into "self promotion". Do I think it would happen? With those teams... Only one I could see is Saint Louis. He steps into a decent team, with still a good core offense that's capable of being great. That being said, most people expect if he continues to do well, that he'll be back in the NFL after 2-3yrs. The other watch is Carrol, while everyone sees how good he is with college players, and how comfortable he is in southern cali, there was talk last year and some more this year, that for the right money and right team, he'd love a chance to "prove" himself as an NFL coach, personally, I think he'd be nuts. As for Wies, the money and the team will be big factors, he also was tuned down for a bunch of pro jobs before taking ND, might be looking for the ego boost in a few years. But at that point he'll have "his recruits" so I don't see why he'd leave then. |

I agree with everyone on Weis should stay in college. In a basketball analogy you would likely want to be head coach of college powerhouses like Kentucky, UCLA, or UNC than a NBA team like the Raptors of Hawks. Weis wants to be in the NFL. Like Vonerich said he was turned down many times and wants to prove he can coach on Sundays. On Around the Horn on ESPN the writers said he should leave after 2-3 years and take a NFL job. But I think he should stay at ND because next year Quinn and Walker will be all the press talks about like Leinart and Bush.

His original deal was 6yrs, now it will be 11 total through 2015, Weis wants to finish his career as ND coach and wants to be ND coach while his son goes to ND. This is what he's saying. I'll bet their's an out clause, probably both ways. Someone throw's a big NFL deal at him, wouldn't be shocked to see him take it. |

Is his son a football player? It seems like if your dad was a coach in any league you wouldn't want to have anything to do with it. There is so much scrutiny and the turnover is so high, everybody would know your business.

Yes his son is a fb player. I forgot his age (I think about 12-13) I heard today on T.V. this is one of the reasons he signed his big extension.
I think Weis is a great coach. But like Andre Ware said today, Willingham started 8-0 for ND, and look what happened to him in 3 yrs. I dont think it will happen to Weis, but you never know. |

So he has a 12-13 year old son and he is that confident that he will be playing for Notre Dame? Or would he be more of a Rudy?

I highly doubt it. I think he will have a much better time bringing the glory back to ND then being an NFL coach. Also I personally think Willingham going 8-0 was a fluke, but Wies is getting the benefit of having all the players that Willingham recruited tho. Everyone wants to talk about how Weis made Brady Quinn better...well Zambroyski (sp?) was a unbelievable player before Weis ever set foot on that practice field.

The true test will be the next 2-3years as Weis gets his own recruits in.
That being said, his offensive systems make any team better. |

ND is also the most hyped up team in the history of football so everyone thinks they are better then they really are. Sure that helps when you are the ND head coach. That's why they are still in the BCS even though they have 2 loses. Right behind 'Bama that is 8-0 in the SEC. Almost beating teams doesn't mean anything. Cal almost beat USC last year..so what?

A loss is a Loss, however BCS takes strength of schedule into account, hence a 6-2 team could be ahead of an 8-0 team. I'd love to see playoffs... spread it over a few weeks, or even 2 weeks, maybe just the top 4.... rotate bowls and such... then still have the other bowls for the teams that don't make the playoff system. |
