Thank you... (Not that this is the "discussion forum" and no, I don't support the NRA, I'm all for the right to bare arms, but there's a big difference between a hunting rifle or a 9mm semi-auto and an Uzi with vest piercing bullets, the NRA doesn't get that.)

Also, Stima... you're a local boy... remember a guy called "The Hick from French Lick?"

Larry Bird did fine here. Most people do, they get used to it and how to deal with the media.

I'm more worried about him on field then off.

I'm sure we could list a lot more players in all sport who did fine in Boston that we're from "laid back" places.

Last young pitcher from Texas did pretty good here... until he gained some weight, lost 5-10mph on his fastball and then got motivated by a GM that didn't want to pay him top $$$ for sub-par performance.
Roger Clemens should thank Dan Duqette when he goes into the HOF.

Schilling is from Alaska and Timlin is from Texas, and they haven't been hassled by Boston media.

I would be more concerned with what the media says about Beckett's health before his political opinions.

Rumors is that the Jays are going after Overbay. Dunno if he is a the power hitter that we need but he'd for sure be an upgrade over Hinske at 1B

Wagner is 99% to the Mets, don't worry. Omar said he wants to get the closer out fo the way as soon as posible and spend more time taking care of catcher and other positions.

trading for overbay doesn't make much sense since the jays already said they are moving hillenbrand to first base and hinske to the bench.

Read a report that once the Mets get the whole Wagner/catcher situations out of the way, they might try seeing if Trevor Hoffman wants to come to NY and set up Wagner (or vice-versa in some cases...a 2-headed closer, if you will)

As great as that would make the Mets pen, I just can't see a guy who's been a regular closer his whole career (with over 400 saves, no less) decide to give up an everyday closer's role unless the Mets SEVERLY overpaid for him, which I would rather not see.

Jays pursuing Overbay
Nov 25 - According to the Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays are trying to acquire first baseman Lyle Overbay from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers reportedly asked for right-hander Dustin McGowan, a former No. 1 pick, in exchange for Overbay, 28, who hit .276 with 19 home runs and 72 RBI in 2005. Toronto declined a deal for McGowan, 23, who apperaed in 13 games for the Jays last season, and finished with 1-3 with a 6.35 ERA in seven starts.
Dealing Overbay would free up Milwaukee's first-base job for hot prospect Prince Fielder.

Mets closing on Molina
Nov 25 - The Mets are close to making a contract offer to free-agent catcher Bengie Molina, the New York Post reports. Alan Nero, Molina's agent, said he had had conversations with the Mets, but wouldn't say if the Mets had made an offer yet.
Molina, who has spent his entire career with the Angels, is coming off his best season and is one of the best-available catchers in free agency. He hit .295 with 15 home runs and 69 RBI and threw out 31 percent of all runners who attempted to steal against him.

Ausmus exploring options
Nov 25 - The conventional wisdom is that Ausmus will either return to Houston or sign with San Diego in 2006. But his agent, Peter Mrowka, told ESPN.com Insider Jerry Crasnick that Ausmus is willing to consider all the alternatives. "The Astros have been very attentive," Mrowka said. "But Brad isn?t going to limit himself to any one team. We?re keeping all the options open."
Ausmus, 36, wants a more lucrative deal than the two-year, $4 million contract he signed in November 2003. At the time, it was believed that Ausmus would help groom John Buck for the role of full-time catcher in Houston. But the Astros traded Buck to Kansas City, and Ausmus averaged 116 starts behind the plate the past two seasons. His .351 on-base percentage this year was his highest since 2000.

Yeah, and you are basing that off of what?

Kolb's big season he got 39 saves and got 21 strike outs and 39 the year before

Ryan had 34 saves and 100 k's and 122 k's the year before

No doubt the Jays overpaid but Ryan is still a good player and will be a solid closer

I'm watching videos of Mike Jacobs from this season. I can't believe the Mets traded him. He has such a nice swing. He seemed so perfect. I am going to miss him so much. I was even at his first game/at bat/hit/home run. I hope he kills us every time we play the Marlins. This is just like Scott Kazmir all over again.

Jacobs still has severe problems with swinging at balls out of the strike zone...this problem could become huge if it isn't corrected fast. Jacobs will likely see his share of ups and downs in his full rookie season.

I too was at his first game/at bat/hit/home run, and I will miss him...but this is NOWHERE near Kazmir level. Here, they are trading a guy who had one great month for a guy with a career of sucess. Kazmir-for-Zambrano was a young fireballer for a crappy pitcher who couldn't find the strikezone. Delgado makes everyone in the batting order better...Zambrano did fuck all for the Mets rotation.

Also, fuck you. No true fan wishes to get destroyed by the opposition.

Omar still wants Manny apparently

He's already said Delgado will be on the team, I'm guessing if we were to give up Manny without dealing Milledge, we'd have to include Floyd in there, though he's on the last year in his deal. I'd try and package together something to bring Manny and Clement to NY, but I'd keep Milledge at all costs. Maybe they want youth and would rather take Nady or Diaz? I dunno.

I won't lie though, the thought of this lineup has me salivating:

SS - Reyes (Switch)
CF - Beltran (Switch)
RF - Manny (Right)
1B - Delgado (Left)
3B - Wright (Right)
LF - Floyd (Left)
C - Hernandez/Molina (Right)
2B - Matsui/Hernandez/Keppinger (Switch...or Right if it's Keppinger)

Constantly giving managers headaches with that lineup

Sox set deadline
Nov 27 - White Sox GM Ken Williams has set a deadline regarding their efforts to re-sign free-agent first baseman Paul Konerko, according to the Chicago Tribune. "One way or another, we need closure by the [end of the] winter meetings," said Williams in a conference call with Chicago media on Friday. The winter meetings end Dec. 8.
Williams said he "will remain positive and optimistic" about re-signing Konerko, but "not so much I won't pursue other avenues [for trades] if he's not coming back."
The White Sox made the first move in trying to get Konerko back, offering him a four-year, $52 million deal, the Daily Southtown recent reported. But Konerko is intent on finding out how much he's worth on the open market.
ESPN.com Insider Jerry Crasnick reported that Boston's front office contingent with Craig Landis, Konerko's representative.

Mets GM Omar Minaya wouldn't say which catcher he preferred. Newsday reports that the Mets appear to prefer Hernandez and that the three-year deals were worth about $7 million per season.
"They're both very good catchers," Minaya said. "I don't want to get into my evaluation of the catchers. ... I am not going to [reveal] how I value these guys."
The Diamondbacks are apparently wooing Hernandez as well, according to the Arizona Republic. The Orioles, the Baltimore Suns reports, are also interested in Hernandez.

Nov 27 - The New York Daily News reports that the Yankees are not shopping Carl Pavano. "We think he'll help stabilize our staff instead of taking away from it," GM Brian Cashman said.
According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Pavano has been telling friends he wants out of New York.
The right-hander, who signed a four-year, $39.95 million deal with the Yankees last offseason, is reportedly "miserable." A baseball official told the Daily News that the Tigers, who pursued Pavano as a free agent last winter, were interested in him.
