if we're limiting this to current WWE:
Booker T and RVD. That should have been the first feud of such when Booker T went to SmackDown. WWE dropped the ball though. It seems as if they're afraid of that show getting over. |

Shelton Benjamin. Not right now, but within two years maybe. He has gotten better on the mic, and is amazing in the ring.

Seriously though, I would choose RVD, my favorite wrestler, but he just hasn't been wrestling like he did in ECW. It's just a few spots of RVD. I feel like him holding the title would be like just using his name and not what he's about. I'd rather see a hundred matches where he wrestled like he did in ECW and never win the WWE championship then to see him win it and continue just doing a Hoganized version of RVD. I'm not saying he does the same thing every match and given the WWE atmosphere it's not his fault, but he has done very little new... and not shown his technical prowess as much as he should.

I think stephanie should be in a match with the WWE champ and give birth in the ring the baby landing on top, it scares the hell out of whoever the champ is thus costing him the match. Mcmahon later says the match was actually a 3 way match.

My answer to the original question...NO ONE. At least no new champions for like, god, 5 years. Do you realise that from 1963 until 1992 there was only 16 World Champions in WWE history...and currently on the active WWE Roster we have 16 former WWE crowned World Champions. No one sees the problem with this? I know there are a lot of people who deserve it, but there have always been a lot of people who deserve it who never got it. As unfair as it was, them not getting it continued to make the belt that much more treasured. When Benoit and Jericho would fued for the IC Title, with everyone (marks and smarts alike) knowing full well they could be World Champs, it not only made the World Title something everyone should always be driving for, but it made the undercard look credible. Too many former World Champs hanging around the midcard shockingly makes not only the World Titles look useless, but also deminishes interest in the undercard itself. Who cares if JBL or Benoit are US Champs, both are former World Champs, it's a step down for both of them, and because of that there is less interest. The only titles I think former World Champs should fight for (a few exceptions to be made) are the Tag Titles. I don't care what anyone says, I have no problem with Super Teams. |

There are several choices that come to mind:
RAW Shelton Benjamin: Let him carry the IC belt awhile, hone his mic skills[which are currently terrible], and have a feud with Charlie Haas[in which he would lose the IC title]. By then, if his mic skills have improved, he definetely deserves a title run. RVD: He's been overlooked since the day he made his debut in the WWE[WWF]. I'm hoping WWE will do the right thing and make him champ @ ECW One Night Stand. Kane: Another misused talent who could use a title run. SmackDown Lashley: Once this guy develops his skill, he's gonna be an amazing superstar. Maybe in a year or two, he could be a possible candidate for WHC. Matt Hardy: V1 is perhaps the most underutilized talent on the SmackDown roster. I think alot of the negativity towards Hardy is his defiant attitude towards the WWE during his hiatus and the whole Edge/Lita situation. It's kinda like he's being punished. But, his ring work is second to none. Why WWE fails to capatilize on Hardy's ability is anyone's guess. Hardy DESERVES to be champion. Benoit: I know he's a former champion, BUT.... Benoit is the BEST technician the WWE has. He & Angle are the best on the WWE roster. And since Mysterio is obviously not gonna turn heel, perhaps a heel turn with more emphasis on his mic skills would help elevate Benoit back to being WHC. Booker T: He's been turned into a joke. Almost like Benjamin and his "Momma". Drop Sharmell and the injury faking thing. It doesn't work and only ruins Book's credibility. Let him be the guy he was in WCW. If not, he will continue coming off like a joke. Just a few names that come to mind. |

DaveWadding and TL will scream at me for this, but Val Venis. Seriously, the guy chose the smaller paycheck and went to WWE, and has since busted his ass, carries guys to watchable matches, sells like no one else and is half-way charismatic.
When this guy returns to the WWE in 8 weeks or so, I hope they just give him a title shot out of the blue, have him hang with the Champ (the great thing about John Cena as WWE Champion is that the fans will always get behind whoever is challenging). Venis eventually gets cut-off going for The Money Shot, and Cena goes for a superplex, or top rope F-U. Triple H/RVD runs out and cracks Cena over the head with a steel chair/sledgehammer. Cena falls from the top rope and is in position. Venis positions himself on the top rope. Venis flies in with The Money Shot as the referee is coming too (ref bump earlier). 1-2-3! Val fucking Venis is WWE Champion. I don't care how long it lasts, I don't care how tainted it is, I just want to see this man with a WWE Championship reign on his resume. He could play the chickenshit heel Champion to perfection. You could have RVD help him win because Venis makes for an easier opponent than John Cena. Venis takes offense to this and sells out to Vince McMahon, giving him protection and maybe having Vince place restrictions on when and how RVD can use the title shot. This would also make Val Venis only the fourth man in WWE history to win the Grand Slam Championship (WWE Championship, WWE Intercontinental Championship, WWE European Championship and World Tag Team Championship). Apart from that, you have your RVD's and Booker T's, but I have a feeling RVD will win the WWE Championship whenever he cashes in his title shot, and Booker T is technically a former World Champion. He could find himself with the belt someday, too. |

I gotta agree. Folks with comedy gimmicks will never be legit title contenders, as their gimmick will always overshadow their talent.

Did anyone buy JBL as WWE Champion? Rey Mysterio? The WWE still did it. They have done many stupider things than have a guy return from an injury, talk about how thinks his solid work over the years as earnt him a title shot, have him go out and win the belt due to an already existing feud between the Champion and a seperate challenger.
This thread is about who deserves a title run. Sean Morley deserves it, in my opinion. And people will buy it, in eight weeks many people will have already forgotten who Val Venis is. Hell, have him come back as Sean Morley and even fewer fans will remember. And the best thing about Champions no one believes in is that they can play perfect heels. Sean Morley could lose the WWE Title any given night the WWE is in town. Eugene could get a title shot and look like he might have a shot at winning the belt. They just have to make sure they don't keep the belt on him too long, like they did JBL. |

.... ... .. . Don't answer that. How thhe hell can you compare JBL and Rey Mysterio winning the belt to Val Venis? Rey is HUGELY over (and has been his whole career). JBL picked up the instant heat Million $ Man 2000 gimmick and used his charisma to get it over. Venis is a CAREER MIDCARDER. He's okay for one liners, but that's it. He's average in the ring. Without the Val Venis gimmick, he would probably be the one of the most vanilla wrestlers on the roster (and thats saying something because there are a lot of vanilla motherfuckers right now.) |

I won't argue too far into Mysterio, because he has been "over" and selling merchandise and winning matches on SmackDown! since he debuted. Your JBL arguement makes no fucking sense. He was given a change of gimmick and he suddenly became Championship material? Technically the same could be done for Sean Morley. Venis hasn't even been given a chance to use his charisma to get over. Bradshaw didn't for years either. When he did get the chance, suddenly this charisma appeared out of thin air. Well, it took a while, as he is only now being recognised by a lot of fans as a great heel. For a while the only way he got heat was for being a real-life jackass. Venis may be considered by YOU to be a career mid-carder, but Bradshaw was considered by many to be a "tag team guy" for many years. Then suddently, out of the blue he's main eventing PPVs. Nothing is written in stone. By the way, without the Val Venis character, Chief Morley was one of the better heels on the RAW brand, and was on the verge of breaking out as a credible upper mid-card talent on the rise. Don't base your negative "they're not going to be anything!" arguements on opinions or assumptions. |

I however do disagree about your point that former world champs feuding for the secondary title. It does kinda give it credibilty and more often than not former champs have better character and abilities that make them better candidates for the title than the rest of the rooster. |
