Absolute dream for us. I said it before the world cup, getting out of our group would be a dream, gonna take some time to sink in. We've done better than I ever expected us to. It's just a dream, that's all I'll say. 32 years we've waited, and I think it's been worth the wait for a moment like Kewell's goal.

What did I say? Kalac should never have got the start ahead of Schwarzer, and Schwarzer must start against Italy. Kalac simply can't play for us again unless Schwarzer's injured. He's just not good enough, and he's had his chance.

Not quite the raping I was hoping for, but we're finally cashing in our 32 years of bad luck. Maybe the linesman felt bad for us after those 2 penalties we should have had, but Kewell was clearly offside. We should have had 2 more penalties and the goal at the end should have stood. We controlled that game really well except for the opening 10 minutes and parts of the second half. Kennedy, Aloisi and Bresciano off the bench is a killer. We had an arseload of crosses coming in all game, and they became a lot more effective when we had Aloisi and Kennedy in there.

Both teams kicked the absolute crap out of each other, and Poll had a hell of a lot to do. Speaking of which, he can't ref again at this tournament after that. He missed 2 blatant penalties, and has to be raked over the coals for not sending off Simunic. It didn't cost us this time, but it's not good enough at a World Cup not to check your book. I wonder if he thought 'this seems familiar' when he booked Simunic the third time. What would have happened if he'd scored a winner for Croatia? Shit would have hit the fan completely. Probably an appeal to FIFA over the result and all that.

That's 3 shit refs we've had in 3 games. Hopefully now we're at the business end the standards will improve.

Kewell was fantastic tonight on the left. I think he started on the right, I just don't remember. It's all been an absolute blur. Must be the skinful of beers I've had.

Australia are a lot like Wales when it comes to football actually. Always choke when it comes down to that one moment. We have come so, so close on so many occasions. 50 years of hurt for Wales. You guys have finally done it though, and now you're on a roll. I vow that in my lifetime, I will go to a major championship with Wales competing in it.

Well, we've been shit ever since we lost the Euro 2004 play off game to Russia. 2 legs. 1st leg - 0-0 away, fantastic result. We just need to win at home against a mediocre Russia team to go to the Euro 2004 finals in Portugal, in the same campaign were we beat Italy.

Final score from Cardiff - Wales 0-1 Russia

The most painful 90 minutes I ever sat through. All 72, 000 of us went home gutted.

And since then, like 3 quarters of our team has retired. But EURO 2008 HERE WE COME.

I am glad Eric Wynalda at least has the balls to say it, Bruce Arena managed this World Cup like shit. I can't believe they went with a 4-5-1 today. The midfield was crowded and couldn't get shit forward, nobody was moving around and other than a few missed opportunities, the US played like crap.

I knew coming into the World Cup that the US team was overrated. With the FIFA ranking and the 2002 cup, people were dilusional. I remember Marcelo Balboa playing "contender or pretender" during the draw and calling the US a contender. HA. Landon Donovan plays in the MLS, the rest of our players are journeymen in the EPL, this team has NOTHING on the world powers. The 2002 team won because they were fired up, guys like Clint Mathis, even if he was unfit to play in all the games, just didn't give a shit and came through against S. Korea. This World Cup was just a bunch of pansies like Eddie Lewis and Carlos Bocanerga.

I can't get off how frustrating this game was, but the US has got a lot of work to do. We can also count our lucky stars that the next World Cup is in Africa, we are pitiful in Europe.

Graham Poll is gonna be really fucked.

FIFA said before hand that they'd be coming down hard on refs that don't do their job right. And when Andy D'Urso did that exact thing a couple of seasons ago in the Premiership, between Scum and Blackburn where he booked Barry Ferguson twice but didn't send him off, he was suspended immedietly and then dropped from the Premiership.

I found it quite hillarious that abc kept running promos for the us team boasting the FIFA ranking, and claiming no respect. I said that the US needed to improve on their 2002 wc in order to bolster support in the USA for the sport. Its sad that hasnt happend, as all the ignorant cunts will claim fluke and write football off once again.

The US were definately way overrated this time round, but they played below their abilities. and the refs have nothing to do with it. if you only score 1 goal you deserve to go home. Now heres hoping England can get their act together sans owen. That Walcott pick is looking worse by the minute. Crouch sucks donkey dong, so here's hoping Rooney can carry us on.

Also if someone could tell Gerrard and Lampard to stop skying shots from the midfield or Beckham to stop looking for Crouch's noggin from 50 yards I would be happy. There seems to be a real disconnect between the midfield and the forwards. I think they need to get the ball on the ground and work it. stop with the long balls!!

All I would like to say is I have been through so many heart-breaking World Cup qualifications with Australia where we have been so close and yet so far, and FINALLY not only have we qualified but we have had a bit of luck on our side and gotten through to the next round. To be honest I felt we were good enough to finish 2nd behind Brasil but I could never have imagined it happening. Great stuff - an incredible finish against the Croats.

Poll lost control in the last 10 minutes, but he was shit throughout. How the two penalties were missed for the second half handball in the box (the defenders head wasn't anywhere near his fully outstretched arm) and when Viduka was tackled in the box just after Croatia's first goal I'll never know.

And most importantly Bruce Arena can suck my cock. Looking forward to seeing his team fall off the face of the earth when the rankings are put out after the WC. What a stupid cunt.

I am surprised the US still isn't very good at soccer. I realize it is not a big sport here, like to watch, but sooo many people play it. Not for nothing, they did tie Italy I guess but you'd think, with the resources the US has and the amount of people playing, they'd play a little bit better than they did.

It is pretty crazy to see the amount of interest the World Cup is gaining over here though, not just for the America team, like overall. I don't remember it ever getting this much attention before.

I dunno if that's gonna help at all. We sucked, but we played our best (and best = fair in this case) during our evening contest, and sucked hard during our daytime games under the sun. I can only imagine it's hot as hell in Africa all the damn time, so I doubt it's gonna help our cause.

Well it was bloody hot in Japan/Korea wasn't it. And if they're playing in South Africa in our Summer, then it will be their winter, so I assume it will be cooler? Or is their climate fucked up? Oh well, I'm going there next July, so I'll have to see.

Winter is cooler than summer reguardless of where in the world it is. South Africa has a similer climate to Australia, so it will be cooler than summer, the only way you can play sport in the summer over here is to play it at night (unless it is a summer sport like cricket where they stand around and do fuck all, then it doesn't matter).

Normally I would have sympathy for a county that is trying to be regarded as a serious force in Football, the fact that even if the US won the whole fucking thing you lot would still watch that crash helmet crap over real Football and call your superbowl winners World Champions means that most of the World doesn't give a shit and really doesn't want to see you achieve anything of substance. It's a shame really, when it means you miss out on the emotion and excitement of the greatest sporting event in the World.

Victoria in Australia is alot like America in that respect. No disrespect to those of you that watch Football and support it - it's just a shame the majority of your country has their heads stuck up their arses.

One thing that kind of sucks is that the upstart teams really aren't making as big of an impact this year. I mean the semifinals in 2002 was Germany, Brazil, South Korea and Turkey. That is the true World Cup.

Argentina and Brazil both have a good chance at making the semifinals, but it could very easily be an all-European group. I was disappointed to see Korea get knocked out and it was also disappointing that no African team's really stepped up. I would love to see Australia make a run, but starting out against Italy doesn't help. That being said, a win over Italy makes the semifinals in definate reach as both Ukraine and Switzerland are beatable.

Yeah but now they have a first round opponent of Brazil without Essien, so as nice as their little run has been, it is basically over. The only kind-of darkhorse team that I can see making a run now in the second round would be Australia.
