Angle's release a decision by WWE

Dave Meltzer of WrestlingObserver.com posted a story saying the WWE.com interview done with recently released, Kurt Angle, was done so he can "save face" and make it sound like a mutual decision.

In actuality the release of Kurt Angle was a decision made by WWE themselves as they are very concerned about Kurt's health overall. Right now he is going through a divorce, his neck is really hurt and he will one day need neck fusion surgery that will effectively end his career, he has an abdominal injury and the groin tear. Because of these injuries he has been (as alluded to in the WWE.com article) using pain medication with regularity. WWE is worried that he wont rest and stop himself so they had to do so for him.

The release is said to be WWE's only option to help him and is compared to the Jeff Hardy release from 2003 in that WWE feels he has a problem right now and Kurt doesnt and in an effort to help him they had to release him.

WWE is said to be very open to bringing him back down the line. We will continue to follow this story and have more when we know it.

I think the WWE was right in their decision. I'd rather him be unemployed than dead or paralyzed.

He won't go to TNA, I'm well aware of that. It is most likely that TNA are trying to at least talk with Angle for a future. It's not gonna happen, but wouldn't you if you were in charge of that kind of thing?

Yeah but my point is that the WWE still has final say when it comes to releases. Even if Angle did approach them for a release they still have the right to refuse and offer an alternative.

It's usually a 90 day no-compete clause so it would be a good amount of time anyway if he has it.

He would not wrestle in TNA. I was just saying that TNA are probably at least going to try and work something out. Nothing will get worked out, but you know they're gonna at least try.

And good for WWE on releasing him. He clearly needs a lot of time off right now. I remember watching an interview with Kurt Angle on Off the Record years ago wher Kurt said he was against drugs and painkillers. He did admit that he has taken some because of surgeries, but at that time in his career he didn't need them and wouldn't take them. His pain must be pretty bad for him to have to take them often.

As much as I'm gonna miss him, I'd rather him be home and healthy than have to wake up and take pain killers to get him through every day he's on the road.

If the WWE is smart, which they are not, they could use this slot to give someone fresh a huge push. I keep thinking Shelton is a very good guy to give a push to. Maybe not a super main event push right away, but at least a minor main event push.

Well, it would make a difference, because if he doesn't know what's good for him, he could go down without a 90 day NCC. Also, 90 days isn't likely to be enough to heal. You also have to remember that people who go back far enough aren't always under that no-compete clause.

i think if he wants to wrestle again tna would be best for him, since he only has to wrestle once or twice a month instead of once or twice a week. he can be like steiner.

That's kind of what I meant, I just didn't word it right and I doubt Kurt has the NCC but I hope he does know what's best for him and takes a lot of time off from wrestling because you're right about him needing more than 90 days to heal.

Like its been said, his neck injuries are chronic. And the other three injuries he sustained in a single match alone should probably warrant 3 months worth of proper healing time. Plus, it takes a long while to patch up differences with spouses and generally speaking, addictions to medications are a life long battle.

We won't be seeing Kurt Angle anytime soon. This is most likely a Shawn Michaels sort of situation, except I doubt he will ever make a full time return to the ring.

Never say never in wrestling, so I expect to see him back eventually, but for his own sake I hope he does not rush his recovery. He really needs a long lay off, and I hope he's smart enough and has enough will power not to come back to early.

Not to play devil's advocate or anything but how does it even hurt the WWE when he was on ECW programming anyway? It has no effect on the main rosters in my opinion. But regardless, I don't think this is going to be like those other times where he rushed back (remember right after WrestleMania 19?). It'll be a while (I'm talking maybe mid-2007) before we see Kurt in a major full time role.

Again, I repeat it: the guy needs a break. He pushes himself and pours his heart, soul, blood, and bones into entertaining us, and that is absolutely awesome, but I don't want him sacrificing his life to do so.

The last thing anyone wants is for Kurt to become the next Eddie.

It looks like he WAS the wrestler on "death watch" a few months ago after all. I never heard confirmation of that, at least, so that's why I just made that assertion just now.
