TNA "NWA" Naming rights...

What the hell ever happened to TNA having to drop the use of the NWA name? Wasn't there huge fuss over this not all that long ago and they couldn't reach an agreement, yada yada yada, and TNA was going to be dumping the NWA Titles, etc. What the hell happened with that? It just all of a sudden went away, the titles didn't change, i never heard about any resolution, what happened?

What's so credible about them now? New fans have no idea what the fuck the NWA is. And those belts are so fucking damn ugly.

Atleast it has a lineage, wrestlers like Harley Race, Lou Thesz, Ricky Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes have all held it. It has more credibility then just a TNA Would Title would.

i would love to see ric flairs son dave flair get the belt now. since he is an indy wrestler and a flair is the best place for the belt to go to now.

My question is...how are they gonna ddress this situation ifd the title isn't even on the line on Sunday!?

Unless they're building to something with this Christian promising everyone a shot/guy who gets the pinfall in Lethal Lockdown gets the shot angle.

When was the last time the belt was defended? Does the NWA have any kinda ruling stating that the belt has to be defended within a given time period?

You reckon they'd run an agle stripping CC of the title?

My guess is that they show up on Impact with a new Belt for both the World and Tag Titles, begin refering to them as TNA ____ Champion, and never address it again.

Dunno really. what I do know is i could come up with 1,000 swerve finishes to get the title off the heel and onto the babyface (and first ever) TNA champion. Wouldn't be hard.

By that logic then there isn't any credible title anywhere and the whole notion of the NWA strap meaning nothing is pointless.

Now I'm always willing to go to bat for the NWA Belt any day of the week, but let's call a spade a spade, compared to the WWE Title's history of the worst title holders and NWA's...WWE walks out looking better. Now compare the legacy and the best who held it, and NWA whips ass.

I disagree with that 100%. The WWE/F Title, since Hulk Hogan beat The Iron Shiek has meant more than any title on earth.

I'm picturing something where Team 3D beats The LAX to become the new NWA World Tag Team Champions, then they throw the belts down and declare themselves the new TNA Tag Team Champions. I don't really like Team 3D, but it gives them that NWA Tag Title win, and replaces the belts.

That leaves Christian Cage, though.

I think they should just address the issue head-on. Have the show open with Jim Cornette announcing that TNA has not renegotiated with the NWA, because it is time to carve their own legacy. The LAX vs. Team 3D becomes a match to decide the first-ever TNA World Tag Team Champions. They can then tell the fans to watch iMpact! to find out more about the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

I'd have The LAX beat Team 3D to become the first-ever TNA World Tag Team Champions, to be honest. They're the best tag team TNA has had in some time.

Does the end of NWA titles in TNA HAVE to be some act of disrespect? Why can't the champions hit the ring together and cut a promo about how NWA is great and it has a phenominal history, but while they are happy to be NWA champions, TNA is ready to stand on their own, and that their titles will now be called TNA titles. Or something like that. TNA has done far too much of the "same shit different shape" since its inception, why can't they do something UNEXPECTED for once.

The title isn't credible though and that's my point.

Umm...am I missing a news report or something. Last I heard was that TNA withdrew from NWA, but has exclusive rights to the NWA Championship and NWA Tag Championship till like 2014. Why would they switch titles right now?

From Wikipedia about the NWA World Championship...

The TNA era

TNA withdrew from the NWA in 2004 but secured the rights to use the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and NWA World Tag Team Championship until 2014. TNA can use the titles any way they see fit while not incurring the rule of the NWA Board of Directors. While these titles are still defended in several NWA territories and feds, they are currently exclusive to TNA. Because of TNA's success on Spike TV, Pro Wrestling Illustrated (as of the August 2006 issue) re-instated "world title status" back to both Heavyweight and Tag Team belts.

The NWA is backing out on the deal due to TNA not paying for the rights to the titles on time or something to a similar effect.

Oh...source?

If it does happen to be true, I'm for it. History with a championship helps, but for a company trying to set a new standard (or at least from what they say), new titles with a fresh start helps. They technically can consider everyone from the start of the TNA era a champion I guess too, like TNA World Championship starting with Shamrock.
