Why can't TNA compete?
This has probably been asked hundreds of times, but I don't watch TNA so I can't really say anything on the matter. However, I just went over to their website and saw their roster and it's pretty rammed with people, who if they were in WWE, I would like to see on a regular basis.
I know they can't really compete on a monetary basis with Vince, but are there any other things that is holding them back? Bad booking? Lack of two hour timeslot? 6 sided ring? poor commentary team? What reasons apart from money is holding them back? |

Fuck, I absolutely cannot stand Don West & Mike Tenay on commentary. They call every little thing and then over analyze it to death. There is never a time in a match when one of them is not talking. I seriously think that is their biggest problem. They never just let the action speak for itself. Plus, add into the equation that Don West is just fucking annoying at all times.

... But commentary is not the reason they can't compete.
The booking of the talent, the matches, the feuds and their television show is what is holding them back. |

Bad booking, Lack of two hour timeslot, 6 sided ring, poor commentary team, money, and people not knowing they exist/not watching.

The wrestling landscape is such, with WWE having such a dominating lead and so much content on TV that the audience TNA needs to capture, the casuals, really have no desire to connect to it. As well as that, TNA's product isn't the best despite the talent, so it doesn't have the ability to overcome that. Plus, there's a good amount of wrestling fans that stopped watching after WCW died that aren't been captivated by TNA either, so they're really accomplishing nothing.

TNA itself is the reason TNA can't compete.

It might have to do with them refusing to make their own stars. You can compete with someone if you just use their throw outs.

Worse commentating team in Histroy, I only time i pay attention to whats bein said is if they have a third party. I never liked Mike Tenay in his WCW days and I still don't. Don West is Don West.
And yes there six sided ring needs to go, maybe have a PPV once a year with it or somethin, seems how TNA like gimmick PPV's so much. Also I'm a fan of wrestling, so putting on a decent wrestling match week in and week out may also help, and gettin out of Orlando. Theres plenty more but thats a couple. |

Well, when they spend a week hyping a "dream match" between Sting and Kurt Angle, and have it only go for three minutes before a run-in attack on Kurt, then put Sting into a title match, which goes about eight minutes, only to end with a run-in attack on Christian, by Kurt Angle, and then have Sting baseball bat him in the gut, all the while Don West and Mike Tenay are yelling at the top of their lungs, it's not hard to see why TNA sucks.
TNAs booking is in serious need of help. They need a new announce team. Hell, I'd rather listen to Tony Schiavone. |

But anyway, I think that is there biggest issue, they build there show around WWE castaways and WCW has beens. When that is your big draw, how are you supposed to compete with the company when your biggest stars are their crap they didn't want anymore. And they constantly bury "TNA" stars at the expensive of putting over incoming WWE rejects. And, like my example above, I like Styles and all. He works as a heel and he's fine in with Christian's stable (of sorts) and fine as a bit of a comedy character even, but he's booked to act majorly retarded and pathetic and looks like Christian is keeping him around as a Make-A-Wish thing. |

It's the production value, the booking, the commentators. The X-Divsion doesn't help, either. I mean, they feature a ton of lackluster flippy guys. Now, if that was successful, WCW would have lead the pack without ever touching the nWo, or revealing the dirty secrets of the upcoming Raws.
I'm not saying you need hosses to sell, but the minor leagues are an issue, you know? Their booking is usually ass, and the only folks I can bring myself to care about full time are Sting, Cage, and Angle...Two guys from WWE and one from WCW. There are some cool guys, don't get me wrong. Daniels is fun (Not the icon he's made out to be, but I like him) and Abyss is pretty cool, but besides feeling like a second rate WCW, they book like ass, I can't stand the announcers, and everyone getting cheered makes it hard for me to dig the heels. |

I don't think they really know who their target audience is.
Their main audience seems to be made up of people who enjoy the Sports Entertainment style of wrestling (so ROH just isn't enough for them) but are really fed up of WWE. But as soon as WWE does things they like they'll quickly swap back. They haven't been able to capture casual fans (mainly because their roster seems to be made up of WWE castoffs and young stars who aren't getting to do anything) and the majority of the IWC can't stand it because the booking is so horrible, confused and amiss (sloppy endings, short matches, blurry line between heels and faces, bad storylines). Plus you are lucky to get 10 mins of wrestling in one show. In the end the message seems to be "watch us because WWE is really bad at the moment" which even if it works, isn't going to work forever. Then they have silly grimmicky things to try and separate themselves from WWE, like the 6-sided ring and two entrances. If they spent half the time thinking about booking and working with the talent they have (they seems to care more about getting ex-WWE stars than just booking their own talent) rather than trying to portray they are a threat to WWE or putting the WWE down then I think they would be much better off. |

It's a simple matter of why would anyone want to watch TNA? WCW got the castaway stars of WWE but didn't make real progress until the nWo came along. They made a noise that people payed attention to. TNA...doesn't. TNA's booking and style is similar to that of WCW in it's later years when it was still coasting off the success it enjoyed several years earlier. The biggest problem being that TNA doesn't have the history to back up a half asses lazy product.
Plus Don West makes me turn off the TV. |

Also, Jeff Jarrett would be a smackdown "star" in the United States title scene, yet he's the go to guy in TNA.

Are you talking about AJs in ring gayness, or his out of ring gayness?
Anyway, TNA claims to be wrestling, but when they go to traditionally good wrestling cities, they tend to draw less than half the buildings capacity. Then they put on the stupidest PPV idea I've ever heard of, with all the matches in a cage. I always thought cage matches were supposed to be a special, one in a while, way to end a particularly hard hitting feud. A perfect example that comes to mind, is the feud between Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair. Or they are a way to get over a young wrestler, an example of this is MVP vs Kane. |
