Hogan Comments on Benoit Death

Wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan was shocked when the WWE’s Chris Benoit, 40, murdered his wife, Nancy, and son, Daniel, 7, then committed suicide the weekend of June 23.

“He was peaceful and kept to himself,” he tells Us.

Hogan, who last saw Benoit in March, says he wonders what pushed the wrestler over the edge. "I think it had to be something personal, a domestic problem between him and his wife."

And Hogan tells US the wrestler’s wife (and WWE costar) had a dark side.

“She was into devil-worship stuff. It was part of her [wrestling] character, but [she was] somebody who gets so close to their character, someone who gets into their character too much. Sometimes these people believe their own publicity.”

Hogan doesn't believe his own publicity. He just knows he's the biggest name ever in wrestling.

Everyone who has ever had anything to do with wrestling must comment, though. It's mandatory.

THIS JUST IN! Andre the Giant has risen from the grave to comment on the Benoit Tragedy.

Wait 'til K-Fed comments.

After all, he is 1-0 in the ring, and beat the WWE Champion.

Plus, he's thought of killing his wife before too.

TBH Rob, despite Austin garnering a huge amount of fame for wrestling in the 90's...Hogan garnered a huge amount of fame for himself, not just the industry. Meaning essentially that Hogans name is more synonomous with pro wrestling than anyone else's.

I would say that a larger percentage of non-wrestling fans know the Hogan name is associated with wrestling more than Austin's.

Doesn't make him a bigger star though. More people know about Chris Benoit now. Doesn't make him a bigger star than Mick Foley or Chris Jericho though.

And probably more wrestling fans too.

Seeing as Hogan put two companies on the top and was hugely over in Japan.

Wrestling fans know the Hulkamania Years. That's Hogan.

They know the nWo. That's Hogan.

Asian fans will remember his awesome matches with Abdullah and Inoki.

He's a bigger name all-round.

Nikkolas - Thanks for paying homage to my old-school Zeeboe character but a simple, "I think Zeeboe rocks" comment in your last post would have been better.

I'm not worshiping Hogan...

It's kinda obvious he is the biggest name in wrestling to fans and non-fans alike. To non-fans for his numerosu projects outside of wrestling. To fans, for his part in two of the biggest eras in wrestling history in the Hulkamania Years and the nWo which of course spawned the Attitude Era and the Monday Night Wars. Slamming Andre is possibly the biggest moment in wrestling history and since I live in Detroit, it's especially legendary.

He was also hugely over in 4 wrestling companies across the world.

Worship, no. Acknowledging his accomplishments, yes.

The only reason Hogan is a bigger name than Austin now is because of his reality show.

...I know you're not Zeeboe, since I'm him. lol. Seriously. You just type like how I used to type many years ago and since you are a Hogan fan like I am, they all just assumed you are me. They just find it hard to believe that there is more then one person who likes Hogan. They just hate that Hogan is popular. lol. But yes, I am the only one who likes Hogan...all those people who cheer and stand forever whenever Hogan is at wrestling events are all my clones. Infact, I am not even the orginial Zeeboe. The real guy was actually a 58-year old man named Bob from Ohio who worked as a clown and his name was Zeeboe and he loved wrestling and he loved Hogan, but no one else did. So to get Hogan over, they cloned him. And I am one of those clones. We've been around forever.

The real determining factor to who is the biggest wrestling star of all time is if they put Austin versus Hogan in a match. Whoever gets the biggest pop in that match is the biggest of all time...

I kinda think that's why neither of them are too serious about ever facing eachother, they're afarid they'll get out popped, and neither of their egos can take that.

Austin would get the biggest pop. He hasn't legit wrestled since WrestleMania XIX. Hogan has been pissing over his overrated legacy for years.

Not overrated.

He was just better than everyone else.

All the reasons why are already stated.

No matter how you like it, he'll go down as the absolute biggest name in wrestling history for his wrestling accomplishments.

Hell, just slamming Andre is probably bigger than anythign Austin or Rock ever have done.

Asian fans will remember his awesome matches with Abdullah and Inoki.

He's a bigger name all-round.
I've watched Hogan my whole life and I can't even remember matches against Abby or Antonio Inoki.

Rock is ten times the movie star and both he and Austin are bigger PPV draws. Austin also drew money and was paid more money in 3 years than Hogan was in his entire run in the WWF from 1985-1992. FACT.

It's when he was in NJPW. Where he was hugely over.

Hogan was never in a blockbuster. He had roles in minor movies.

Because there were more PPVs in their time.

I know he worked Inoki, I don't remember the matches though. Hogan's matches were always bareable at best.

He is the reason he wasn't in a blockbuster. HE DIDN'T DRAW. He had far more lead roles and did ZERO in all of them.

So? There were also more house shows back in the 80's. And there were the same amount of Wrestlemania's every year and the numbers speak for themselves. And before you give it the bullshit about how less homes had cable then, compare the numbers Hogan did against Rock and Austin from 1998-2001.

And? What's the difference in ten years? Fuck all. Bret Hart was being paid nearly $3 million a year in 1997. Triple-H doesn't even make that in 2007 and there is far more money coming into the WWE now.

I was just gonna let Rob go ahead and make the argument that Rock and Austin were both bigger than Hogan but I had to throw one thing in.

Your argument for Rock being 10 times the movie star is that Hogan was never in a blockbuster. Are you actually implying that Hogan is a better actor, or even nearly on par with Rock when it comes to acting? Rock is huge because he is a good actor and is likeable and he gets jobs because of it. Hogan could never act... so he didn't get major roles. Not much to say beyond that.

As a matter of fact, Austin, Cena and Kane are all significantly better actors than Hogan as well.

His matches are among some of the biggest ever in wrestling history and his matches in Japan showcased his technical ability.

Suburban Commando beats the hell out of Doom.

in 1998, the draw was Goldbrg. Not Hogan. The years after that are the dying days of WCW.

A. I want the source for the numbers on Hogan's pay.
B. You ever heard of an economic slump? That's what was going on in the 80s. That's why we got Reganomics. Then in the 90s and under the Clintons, the economy was great.

You're right. Austin plays a great racist redneck. It's almost like he isn't acting.

No.

I restate that Suburban Commando is a better movie than Doom.
