Thoughts on The Great American Bash
WARING SMACKDOWN! SPOILERS FOR 7/13/07
WWE Champion John Cena vs. Bobby Lashley World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Kane ECW World Champion Johnny Nitro vs. CM Punk Women's Champion Candice Michelle vs. Melina Dusty Rhodes vs. Randy Orton (Texas Bull Rope Match) Batista vs. The Great Khali US Title MVP v.s Matt Hardy Obviously more matches will be added, probably Big Daddy V v.s Boogeyman or a tag match with BDV/Striker v.s Boogeyman and a partner. So what do you think of this card so far? It's pretty damn huge in my opinion and I am thinking it would be worth a buy. The main event matches seem really solid and the undercard looks pretty sweet as well. I am really excited for Rhodes/Orton as well. What do you think of GAB? ![]() |

John Cena VS Bobby Lashley
I think they can surprise us. It won't be match of the year, and anyone expecting it to be will only be dissapointed. But treat it like a B Movie... go in with low expectations, and I think they'll at least give us something half decent. Edge VS Kane In my opinion this should be the main event. Obviously it won't because it's Smackdown, oh well. Both are great workers so this should be good. Obviously nobody expects Kane to win, but I expect they'll do a DQ ending so Johnny Nitro vs. CM Punk Could easily be Match of the night, but I doubt they'll give the Hardcore title more than 10 minutes. Candice Michelle vs. Melina Meh. Dusty Rhodes vs. Randy Orton I was never really a fan of Rhodes, so the whole nostalgia thing won't do it for me. Woulda been better if it was Goldust VS Orton... but whatever... Batista vs. The Great Khali Couldn't give a crap. MVP v.s Matt Hardy Another potential match of the night. Hopefully Hardy will win this. Jeff is always getting IC title runs, but Matt has always been stuck as a cruiserweight. Give him the US title and see how it goes. Could be a pretty decent card... still a lot of shit on it. I miss the days when you'd be pumped about pretty much every match on the card. |

Edge/Kane: This is one of the matches that'll make Edge a legitimate champion. He'll retain. Nitro/Punk: Should be good if they let it, which they won't. Nitro by some trickery. Candice Michelle/Melina: I like Melina's finish, and that's the only thing about her I like. Candice will go over, because she is seen as the "Draw." Bullrope Match: I bet Orton is glad he didn't go over Hogan, now. If he did, this match would have meaningless. It's simply a means to feed Orton. he'll get a push. fuck up or not get over. get buried. rinse. repeat. Batista/Khali: This match will be so bad that it'll go all the way around the spectrum and back to being awesome. If Batista somehow manages to Powerbomb Khali, it'd be insane. That, or it'll end up being Nash/Giant II. Either way, we come out ahead. MVP/Hardy: This should be good. Really Good. I wouldn't be surprised if Matt doesn't get cheated out of the victory. Not by anyone we know, but by someone we THINK we know. ![]() |

Last week I said I could take a 2 1/2 hour crap and have the same amount of fun as watching the Bash, but I'm at least starting to think that I may have a look at it. The Bash, not my crap, though I have been known to specialise in dropping a cool log from time to time.
For me it's just the fact that none of the matches make me wonder. I don't see Cena being pushed as much as he has been only to lose the title after such a relatively short fued, and as much as I'd like it, I don't see Kane winning. The rest? Well, they actually making decent use of the ladies on the roster so that may be worth a look but apart from that it's a 'meh' job... |

John Cena VS Bobby Lashley
If Cena is gonna lose the belt, it's gonna be to Lashley. *sigh* Edge VS Kane Kane is main event material, 9 years ago. Edge retains, no one cares. Edge is still the man. Johnny Nitro vs. CM Punk Will the announcers get Nitro over? We'll find out. Candice Michelle vs. Melina Fuck you. Dusty Rhodes vs. Randy Orton Could be awesome. Definately a reason to even watch. Batista vs. The Great Khali FUCK YOU. MVP v.s Matt Hardy Filler. |

John Cena VS Bobby Lashley
Very interesting, the two people WWE have pushed to the moon square off against eachother. Who's going to do the clean job?! Edge VS Kane It'll be a good match, but as someone said Kane peaked before he took the mask off. It'd be nice for him to win the championship but I'm an Edge man. Johnny Nitro vs. CM Punk Nitro isn't a credible champ, CM Punk needs to be built up more. There hasn't been a credible ECW champ since the Big Show. Candice Michelle vs. Melina Fast forward... Dusty Rhodes vs. Randy Orton Fast forward... Batista vs. The Great Khali Oh brother... MVP v.s Matt Hardy This and the Edge/Kane match should be the highlights of the evening. |

This is probably going to be a disliked idea, but I would have thrown Mark Henry in the Edge/Kane match. I know the guy is no good, but it seems like they should use him for something since they keep signing him, and the guy draws crazy heat. I'd have Kane nearly beat Henry but then the "Ultimate Opportunist" Edge comes in and steals it. Or something. I guess I'd rather see them do something with Henry than just push him whenever they need a filler guy.

John Cena VS Bobby Lashley
Will be asleep by then cos I don't care and the tiny fact it'll be 3:30am and I got work on Monday. Edge VS Kane I'm hoping Edge will defeat Kane clearly here. Edge needs to get out of the gimmick of not being able to cleanly keep the title. Whilst it's good for his charactor, too much of anything is bad. Plus Kane ain't been in the main event for years so why should he get over "that" much. They need to let "the opportunist" live up to his name. Johnny Nitro vs. CM Punk Doubt crowd will be into it bar some "CM PUNK" chants, but I know I will. Think this one has potential to be the best of the night. Candice Michelle vs. Melina Hopefully we'll see a wardrobe malfunction. Dusty Rhodes vs. Randy Orton I'm just waiting for Dusty to be added to the Legend Killer list and for Cody to arrive as an active member of the RAW roster. Saving his dad from the after the bell beat down by Orton, I expect he'll come to make the save and trash Orton, thus getting over and setting up a feud. Batista vs. The Great Khali I'll watch out of my hopefulness of seeing a new Khali move. Other than the "chop of doooooooooooooooooooom". MVP v.s Matt Hardy I think this will be a long winded match. I don't expect it to blow the roof off and think the EC-Dub title match will be more fast paced. I just expect this to be good, but to be used as a "time dragging" match to fill the time of the ECW short match and the Divas short match. All in all, I'm just glad this one's free. Why on earth they charged us for One Night Stand and Vengance is beyond me, on top of that, they both fuckin sucked too. |

John Cena vs. Bobby Lashley
I've read a lot about how people think the WWE are stupid for putting this match on a throwaway PPV like The Great American Bash. I comment the WWE for trying to make The Bash mean something, again. John Cena has been WWE Champion for so long, and he's probably going to lose the belt to heel down the line for Triple H's return. I'm thinking that heel will actually surprise us, and be none other than King Booker. So yeah, I think Cena retaining here is the way the WWE will go. Edge vs. Kane With Edge's new injury, I think Kane going over is a better decision than ever. He's a hard worker, has the fans' support, and the win would be something interesting. This match shouldn't be too long, but when Kane is on fire, and the fans realise it, his matches turn really fun. Edge is becoming a guy that no longer needs to be carried, and can do the carrying, as well. Johnny Nitro vs. CM Punk It is too early to switch the ECW World Title, again. I'd have Nitro sneak out the victory after a great 20-minute match, and then have the story be that Punk can't beat Nitro for some reason. He's just the paper to Punk's rock. Eventually it'd lead to a CM Punk title win, but just don't pull the trigger yet. Maybe at Summerslam in a Ladder Match, or something? The Great Khali vs. Batista This match serves a good purpose, but the means to get to the end won't be pretty. Make this as short and sweet as possible, with Batista killing Khali with a number of Spinebusters, and looking like a beast. Randy Orton vs. Dusty Rhodes Conventional wisdom says that Randy goes over here, but personally, I'd do something different and have Dusty win, but only because Cody comes out and beats the shit out of Randy while he is tied to Dusty. It'd be two good guys finally getting retribution on the bad guy, and I can see the fans eating it up. Dusty gets the big babyface win, as kind of a reminder to the fans who he is, and Orton can show up on RAW and just be bitter about the whole experience, vowing that he will kill Dusty, and there is nothing Cody can do to stop it. I'd go as far as having Orton challenge Dusty to a Steel Cage Match, only for Cody to step in and say that it is suicide, to which Orton amends his challenge to Cody. Dusty doesn't want Cody to face Orton, though, so instead we see Dusty offer to meet Randy half-way. Randy Orton vs. Dustin "Goldust" Rhodes in a Steel Cage Match. Dustin wins that match when Cody shuts the cage door on Orton's head, and more fuel is added to the Cody/Randy fire. MVP vs. Matt Hardy This could be match of the night. Both Montel and Matt are evolving into great wrestlers, and with the US Title on the line, this match could be one of those fondly remembered ones. I think the switch here would be good, as Matt has never had a secondary title reign, and MVP doesn't need a long reign, he's already gotten the rub from being Champion. There are a lot of heels on SmackDown!, so Matt won't run out of challengers, so he can probably have a long and productive title reign. Candice Michelle vs. Melina This won't absolutely suck, and I'm getting used to Candice as being Women's Champion, but please switch the belt back to Melina. She was just so more entertaining as Champion. Have Mickie James back-up Candice, only for Jillian Hall and Beth Phoenix to overwhelm her, allowing the heel numbers to get to Candice, and the Women's Title to return to the bad girl court. The next night on RAW, have Melina, Jillian Hall and Beth Phoenix team up to take on Candice Michelle, Mickie James and the debuting Katie Lea. The faces pick up the victory with Lea pinning Melina, and you have yourself Candice, Mickie and Lea all lined up for title shots, and the program between the heels and the faces to ride for a while. As for matches they will add to the card. I think Mr. Kennedy vs. Super Crazy has a good chance. It would put Kennedy on the card, and after he stood up for the WWE like he did, I can see him being one of Vince's boys more than ever now. This would just be the return match from RAW. King Booker is also without anything to do. Personally, I'd love to see Val Venis and Super Crazy team-up to take on both King Booker and Mr. Kennedy, but that's got like no chance of happening. It would be a nice little development from the Beat the Clock Matches, and Venis and Crazy work as a team, in my opinion. Jeff Hardy is also absent from the card, as is Umaga. An Intercontinental Championship match is not out of the question, but I think they will bypass it, maybe set it up for Summerslam, or have it on RAW. The underused talent mark in me wants to see Paul London & Brian Kendrick face The World's Greatest Tag Team, stemming from their RAW developings, as the match doesn't need much more build to be something, and it could be a hot opener. On the SmackDown! side, the only matches that seem ready to go are Deuce vs. Eugene (pass) or Chavo Guerrero vs. Brett Major. Neither really seems PPV material. It won't happen, because the WWE much prefers its main event talent, and not laying down an undercard foundation these days, but if I were to add two matches to The Great American Bash card, they would be the tag team matches of King Booker & Mr. Kennedy vs. Val Venis & Super Crazy, with the standard face isolation of Super Crazy, with him eventually tagging in Val, who cleans house for a bit, but is then pinned cleanly; and Paul London & Brian Kendrick defeating The World's Greatest Tag Team in the opening match, setting up an encounter with Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch for the World Tag Team Championship in the future. |
