The official BDC's Official review of Summer Slam *duh spoiler*
I'm not sure how I feel after this ppv, it could have been worse, and it could have been better.
1. Finlay v. Kane - this fued was rushed to just get it on the PPV. If WWE played their cards right, they could have had Boogen v BDV as the opening match instead. It had the feel of a throw away match, so yeah. It was an ok match, just nothing I didn't expect. 2. Umaga v Carlito v Kennedy - this match was pretty good. Probably the best match of the night. I was suprised to see Umaga walk out champion as it seemed like a great chance to get the belt off him without him losing. 3. Rey v. Chavo - This match sucked. Rey looked like a short, fat, silver faggot. He no sold the leg for the finish which made no sence with the amount of punishment Chavo inflicted on Rey. Also, why does Rey constantly no-sell chavo. Chavo > Rey. 4. Diva Battle Royal - a waste of time. I was happy Beth Phonix won, but still a rather pointless match. 5. MVP drinking contest - It was so telegraphed that Austin would be there. Does he just show up to get a pop and bury talent? 6. Morrison v Punk - Ok match, seen better, but 3rd best on the card. Kinda boring, but ok. 7. HHH v Booker - good match, good energy. HHH looks good, lost wieght and doesn't look fat unlike 1 midget mexican. I was kinda hoping Booker would win to continue this fued and not just lose and have nothing to do. 8. Kahli v Batista - I so wanted Kahli to win, but now Bats gets another title shot. That really pisses me off. On the other hand, it was a fairly entertaining match from Kahli.9. Orton v. Cena - I hate them both so much. I didn't want Orton to win the title, but I still hate Cena. Fuck, I'm glad Orton not champion, but Cena still is. I don't know. BTW, did we find out who Vince's son is, I could have missed it when I went for a piss or something. Also, it is kind of annoying how no title's changed hands. I would rank this a **1/2* ppv. It was ok, but it wasn't good, and it wasn't horrible. Finally are they ever going to do something with Cryme Tyme besides annoy me? |

I felt bad for Punk and Morrison. The crowd was pretty hot and needed a match to cool down. The ECW Title match just got used as a filler match, not to mention having to follow Austin.

I'm so glad i didn't order it. No titles changing hands? What a rip off, nothing's changed, only thing worth watching was HHH return, and i'm sure they'll show that on RAW anyway. I dunno, if you're gonna shell out money for a show you want to see at least 1 title change hands, especially at one of the big 4 PPVs. Just seems like the whole PPV was just a filler until the next one.
And Cena is still champ. Where the hell was that sniper? |

I thought overall it was a pretty good show. Kane vs Finlay was far better than I was expecting, and Cena vs Orton was pretty good (by their standards)

Also only Beth Phonix and John Morrison were the only heels to win, that is 2 out of 8 matchs. Techincally Bats beat Kahli via dq.

Honestly if the plan was for Khali to keep the title anyways, just have Batista lose. It won't hurt his momentum, he's gonna get the title shot at Unforgiven

the selling in the Orton vs Cena match was half assed as well. Orton threw Cena out the ring and Cena landed normally and then all of a sudden his leg got injured. Then Orton after hitting the RKO holds his leg after landing normally.
If your going to sell an injury like that at least attempt to land a tiny bit awkwardly. |

Orton had just come out of the STFU. Not really selling the right part but it wasn't 'cause of the RKO.

I hate Cena's selling of moves...meaning he has none. He doesn't sell during his comeback, just starts running around like nothing has happened. He gets RKOed...then springs to life to hit the FU 1-2-3 he's fine.

Psychology wise Cena wasn't as bad as you guys make him out to be. He was doing a good job of selling his head injury when Orton was applying the headlocks.

Kane v Finlay 3.5 stars Umaga v Carlito v Kennedy 3.4 stars Booker v HHH 4 stars Diva Battle Royal 3 stars Punk v Morrison 3 stars (it would move up if the crowd had energy during the match) Bats v Kahli 2 stars Chavo v Rey 2.5 stars, Rey killed this match Orton v Cena 2.5 stars, there was no story which killed this match. Cena never sold the prior head injury, and Orton didn't wrestle any different than he ever does. So based on matches allow this wasn't even a 3 star ppv which is sad because Summer Slam is supposed to be the #2 ppv for WWE. Last edited by BigDaddyCool; 08-27-2007 at 03:58 PM. |

BDC's ratings were generous, here is a more-harsh view of the PPV...
Kane v Finlay 1.5 stars Umaga v Carlito v Kennedy 3 stars Booker v HHH 2 stars (No reason why this shouldn't have been way fucking better) Diva Battle Royal 1.1 stars Punk v Morrison 2 stars Bats v Khali 1 bwrar Chavo v Rey 1.3 stars (yeh, it was that goddamn awful) Orton v Cena 3 stars (At least the crowd was into it from the intro to the final bell) Again, Highlight Of The Night - Crowd Participation during the Main Event Lowlight of the Night - Everything Else Last edited by Mercury Bullet; 08-27-2007 at 07:40 PM. |

I like how Austin trumped both HHH and Rey's returns. Those two faggots.

Bit of a 50/50 PPV for me, i enjoyed the Triple Threat. The Rey/Chavo match was interesting, i instantly noticed a huge difference in the look of Rey, dont know what the hell it was at first, but the high flying kept me interested for a bit.
The HHH was alright too, apart from going through about 4-5 Video Packages before HHH come out mind. Got bored of him doing the "X" Taunt/Gesture too, he must have done it about 20-30 times in total. Although HHH's pants did remind me of Space Invaders for some reason, so that give me a few giggles for a bit. The Cena/Orton match was okay as well, i was getting into that match quite a bit hoping that Orton would actually win. As soon as Cena locked in the STFU i started cursing so much and saying Orton better not tap. Shame that a minute later he got FU'd. Hohum. Is this the second/third PPV in a row where a [major] [Not Cruiserweight] title has NOT changed hands? |

Finlay v. Kane
This was a pretty good match, Kane sold the hell out of that rib injury and Finlay had enough psycology to keep attacking the ribs, which made for a very entertaining match to kick off the PPV. After this match I was optomistic that the rest of the PPV would be good as a match I though would be bad turned out pretty good. Umaga (c) v. Carlito v. Mr. Kennedy (for the WWE Intercontinental Championship) This match was really good but it suffered from the old triple threat trap where one guy mysteriously is on the floor for two minutes then when he comes in another guy goes to the floor for two minutes. That being said the match was still about as good as I though it was be. The finish was pretty cool, but Umaga wasn't the man I that should have won, the WWE should have taken advantage of Carlito's momentum and given him the title. Chavo Guerrero v. Rey Mysterio After I got past the, what the fuck is Rey doing with paint all over him... And after I got over the wow Rey must be off the steroids because he's looking awful pudgy... I got to see a damn good match. If Rey had any ring rust on him Chavo totally covered it all up and pulled Rey Rey through a good match. I have to credit Chavo with the reason why this was the match of the night. Rey Rey did his necessary manuvers, and withe the exception of the 619 at the end he sold his leg injury really well. I'm willing to suspend disbelief and pretend that Rey was able to do the 619 on adrenaline. Overall I though that was a good match. Diva Battle Royal They really shouldn't have put this on the card and made some of the following matches longer... MVP v. Steve Austin (Drinking Contest) You know the wrestling buisness is in trouble when a guy who hasn't wrestled a match in over 4 years gets a bigger pop then the longest running world champion in 2 decades, the returning high flying fan favorite, the returning King of Kings, and every other superstar on the roster combined. Steve Austin can out pop God I'm convinced... Any way MVP was his usual good self and Matt Hardy was disappointing... Steve Austin was better on the mic at Summer Slam than Matt Hardy, and Steve Austin was never on the mic John Morrison (c) v. CM Punk (for the ECW Heavyweight Championship I was expecting so much better from these two. CM Punk is a solid worker and John Morrison is a spot monkeyt slowly transitioning into a decent worker... very slowly. This match was way to sloppy to be good and neither of the men exhibited any psycology... Also the finish was a terrible idea on how to finish the match and it was execuited even poorer. King Booker v. Triple H Why the hell was this match 8 minutes? Was it because we needed so badly that Diva battle royal? Was it because he so badly needed Vince McMahons dumb backstage bullshit that did nothing to further any angle? This is just stupid planning. Have Triple H and King Booker at least got 15 minutes to perhaps give the fans a chance to see two quality performers wrestle, lord knows this card only had one other match that had two solid performers and that was Mysterio and Chavo which was essentially a crusierweight match where as Triple H the corner stone of the WWE only goes 8 minutes? Dumb. The eight minutes were good too which was the real travisty of it. The Great Khali (c) v. Batista (for the World Heavyweight Championship) I've seen date rapes less painful then this match, when this match ended it was the best mercy kill since Terry Schivoe. John Cena (c) v. Randy Orton (for the WWE Heavyweight Championship This would have and could have been the match of the night. Hell it could have been the match of the year that didn't involve Shawn Michaels. Randy Orton played his character tremendously well through out the entire match. John Cena... well John Cena didn't get in the way. It could have been so good. Cena after a while actually turned it on and started doing really well. I was digging the match it felt like a big match it felt like the two top guys were going at it. Then Cena hit the F-U and ruined the entire match. Talk about an ending ruining a match. I think the F-U is less of a move and more of a message from the bookers to all of us. Cena Wins Everyone Loses |

I'm so glad I did not order, that is all I am going to say. I love how the WWE want their PPV buyrates to go up, yet the don't even do anything memorable on PPV. Stone Cold Steve Austin making an appearance was probably the most shocking development of the evening. Austin being in the same segment with MVP and Matt Hardy sounds good, too, as it gets them over.
Triple H is so fucking egotistical it's not funny. I can't wait until the fans remember that he's a dick, and start booing him again. The WWE have still not learned that overproduced babyfaces suck dick. |
