WWE Paper
For one of my business classes I have to write a paper on any major company. Naturally being a loser and slacked I picked WWE as it would hold my interest and be somewhat easy. I know for the most part what I'll talk about, but would like some general advise in case I forget anything. To quote from the assignment sheet what the paper is about generally, "Research the company to understand its history, current position in the market, the products it makes, its structure and culture, and most importantly the challenges it has faced and either overcome or which have affected the company."
I figure I'll cover general history, WWE buying out territories, steroids, death in wrestling, WCW/TNA stuff, the bodybuilding thing they had, xfl, the restaurant, music label, WWE films and touch on their stocks. Any other major things I'm missing, the meat of my paper will be how they suck at branching out outside of wrestling; cause I have to relate the paper back to me somehow or a business I want to be in. SO will just bs bout being cautious and not getting to greedy. But yeah, other suggestions appreciated. |

You could maybe talk about their target audience, and whether or not they actually appeal to said demographic?

"Culture" could be very interesting, since WWF/E and wrestling in general have developed their own culture. WWE is a promotion shaped like a corporation, so it's still a corporate entity with its own hierarchy and subculture.
I know it's not really a "new" idea, since it's right in your assignment, but I was just thinking how fucking cool it could be to write something on that level alone. |

You could go the humurous (and true) route if you wanted. Example:
Theres a 62 year old nutcase in control of WWE that somehow thinks he's in touch with 18-25 year old fans and what they want. He also likes to talk about his balls on live tv a lot. The end Sure to raise some eyebrows. ![]() |

Don't forget there marketing of WWE products, that's something they do very well like figures, clothing and DVD's. They do have alot of sucesses as well as failures.
Make sure you post the paper when your done, would be interesting to see it. |

I wrote a ton of papers on WWE and wrestling in my day. It is a very good case study. It is remarkable how they are still in business depite everything.

Now someone mentioned WWE films in respect to WWE not being able to branch out. From what I understand, their movies are actaully doing decent. They aren't a run away success, but they are turning a profit even though they have to wait for the DVD release in the Condemend's case. But the movies seem to be doing alright in an overcrowd movie market place.

They'd probably be doing a lot better if not for that. As far as action figures and the like, I'd be interested in seeing how strong their sales are, compared to other companies and the like. I'm not particularly convinced they're hugely successful; WWE's still been SLASHING expenses over the last few years to avoid taking losses. In fact, it's been since about 2000. |

I think the Rock could be a legit action star. I'm not so sure Austin's quite on that level, but I think he could have helped the movie do better than #6 at the box office.
See No Evil debuted at number 4. Kane isn't even a major moneymaker. |

I never saw it. My interest in Kane is pretty limited, and my interest in slasher films died after watching Friday the Thirteenth gayed up to Hell in the 80s and 90s.

Yeah, well I liked Snakes on a Plane. I like watching movies where I know exactly what is going to happen. Makes me feel smarter.

Hey, nothing wrong with writing business papers on wrestling, or more specifically WWE or WCW. One semester the only A I received in my Economics Course was on a paper about oligopolies and monopolies, and used the Monday Night Wars as an example of 2 companies dominating one market.
