Message from Lance Storm: "TNA is Retarded!"

Yes, I realize there is an obvious truth here, but I was shocked how pissed Lance got at TNA this week. You can tell before even click on the commentary as his usual title of "TNA Commentary" is replaced with with "TNA is Retarded!" He then goes on a long rant pointing out all the terrible mistakes he saw in the show, and how he couldn't even finish watching it. Some points he made including...

-The illogical point of letting wrestlers keep the breifcases for 4 days then takes them away not to tamper with them.
-Jobbing out the Women's Champion while they should be building her up for a PPV match.
-That there was a ladder match to reclaim ownership of the X-Division title belt...but the actual championship isn't on the line.

http://www.stormwrestling.com/tvthoughts.html

Even more interesting to me is I was just going through Rajah.com and ran across an article posted by columnist Richard Gray at 2:16PM, who made almost the same exact complaints and in more detail...

http://rajah.com/base/node/10240

So now you have 2 online writers, one being a former pro-wrestler and booker for ECW, complaing on the same exact things on the creative end of the product. It seems to me like TNA wants to move further with their product, but constantly drop the ball. When will they finally learn from their mistakes?

I haven't watched any wrestling for a few weeks cos I've been away but I read the results for the last few TNA shows and, without even reading the two articles linked above, I agree in how retarded TNA books things!

Their booking of the 'Fight for the Right' tournament was ridicolous and way too convoluted.

Their booking for the last PPV (can't remember the name) had waaaaaaaay too many tag matches and too few title matches for anyone to care about it.

And then they book this retarded Pull-the-briefcase-down-and-you-could-get-a-world-title-shot-or-get-fired-but-then-get-the-
chance-to-swap-the-case-and-void-the-point-of-the-match shit!?

I am (more maybe was?) a big supporter of TNA but even I'm getting burnt out by the lack of consistency, ridicolous over booking and sheer number of gimmick match es they're throwing out (or should that be throwing up?) right now!

It just gets to me though that they can't pull themselves together. I mean I haven't seen a positive review of TNA in a long time, and usually that should be a warning sign to get your shit together.

With WWE, hey...worth around $500,000,000 and has a following of over 40 years..the company has some room for some mistakes. TNA is a 5 year old company, still trying to get off the ground, constantly losing money, with little to no room for mistakes...yet it constantly does stuff even the people of WCW would be ashamed of. Most of the time the product comes off more like a bad sitcom than a wrestling promotion.

Oh, and wasn't going to make a comment about the column stuff, but rereading it I can see why I sound a bit dumb. I should point out that I am a regular visitor of Lance's website, and tend to read his commentary. From that, he for the most part comes off as a calm, logical sounding individual though tends to get annoyed at TNA. However, his show review looked like "the straw that broke the camels back" so to say, and seemed like he really couldn't stand it anymore.

Then a few hours later, I ran across another article by a Rajah reporter, Richard Gray. By no means do I try to place over Richard Gray as someone famous or having a record of being knowledgeable...this is honestly the second article I've ever read by him. However, what got to me was it was almost line by line the same exact review. He made almost every point Lance made, with exception to one or 2 minor details. If anything, it made me see that it wasn't just Lance saying these things from his experience standpoint, but a regular wrestling fan as well.

But again, I guess that's the point I should have made in the first place.

Storm is right, though. The briefcase thing was handled poorly. Senshi left the company, and had the fired briefcase, so they had Daniels win it and get fired, even though he is still with the company? Scott Steiner swapped briefcases with Petey Williams? Why the fuck did they not just reveal what each guy got on their website after the PPV went off air?

I actually agree with TNA putting ODB over Gail Kim. If this gets a three-way match between the ladies, where Kim can pin Kong, and prolong The Awesome One's chase for the TNA Women's Title, then I agree with the move, completely. Having Kim just knock ODB back would give Kim a victory, but it would risk putting her and Awesome Kong on a plateau above all the other ladies. That's why I'm glad something seems to be getting done with ODB, and even Velvet Sky & Angelina Love.

The concept of the Ladder Match for the belt did not frustrate me, so much as the result. Having the belt hanging above the ring, and getting Lethal to grab it made a lot of sense. The belt was stolen, and often in situations like this, a Ladder Match is the way to go. The match not being for the Championship was a bit irritating, though. Why not just do Jay Lethal vs. Johnny Devine? Fuck, with The Motor City Machine Guns beating Team 3D at the PPV before, why not have a Four-Way Ladder Match between Jay Lethal, Johnny Devine, Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley? There were much better ways to go about this, but the fundamental idea of a Ladder Match with Lethal looking to reclaim the belt was fine with me.

Another big issue I currently have with TNA, is that Vince Russo apparently told Traci Brooks to fake her fainting incident on PPV recently. He told her not to tell her family and friends, and to just make it look like she legitimately fainted. Not only did the commentators not have a clue what was going on, but the wrestlers probably didn't, either. Plus, it led nowhere. How depressing?

TNA needs to get rid of Dutch Mantel and Vince Russo, and hire Paul Heyman.

I brought up the same point about the breif cases and why not just open them on the ppv? I mean, that was the selling point of the ppv as none of the men's titles were actually on the line. So what do they do? Keep the fuckers locked up for 2 extra weeks.

I think Lance just finally snapped. Seems like he's been ragging on TNA forever, but this was the show that sent him over the deep end. He's right on every single point, though.

Because it wasn't a review on Turning Point, it was a review on TNA Impact. He does it almost every week on the show, and this was really anger towards the show and how they fucked up after a big PPV.

I want to respond here, but I don't 100% get your point?

True, he could probably be a booker for a wrestling promotion in his area or ROH if he really wanted to, but what point would that prove with TNA?

Or are you suggesting he should use some sort of connection to be a TNA booker, in which case I don't think he has the connections.

Yea, need a bit of clarification here...

I meant with TNA. He has names and numbers, that is a start.

I'm not saying he has the connectiong to be a booker right this second, but he has a way better chance than we would.

Also, it is obvious Lance cares about TNA...or at least did care. But bitching about it on the internet won't change shit.

Since you clarified you mean TNA, let's think about this: Do you really think that he's actually going to be able to politic himself into a position that will actually be meaningful with Jarrett still on the team (We know he's gonna stay)? Let's ignore the other guys, and it seems like Manteel is the "real" problem (Beyond Dixie not having a fucking clue), do you really think that Storm is somehow going to take charge?

That may actually be him, he trained there before his WWE return.

TNA reminds me of WCW in like 93 or 94, when it was REALLY bad. With like Ron Simmons as the champion. With WWF guys coming in left and right, its exactly the same. TNA sucks so bad, their announce team is the worst I have ever herd.

Chris is in the picture, kneeling on the ring to Lance's right side.

Though there is another guy in the picture that looks like Chris in his early years which he was saying looked like a dopple ganger.

yes i agree TNA is pretty bad but Lance Storm is over doing it. Its almost like he wants the WWE to read his articles then say "Lance, you're wonderful..please come work for us"

So fuck you Lance Storm. If you had anythign valuable to contribute to the wrestling business you wouldnt be bitching on the internet.

Do you know he hasn't?

You asked why he wasn't booking, and I pointed out a very important reason it might be unfeasible, not saying that he should never try.

That's pretty pointless to ask. You've said before that you were considering getting training off Lance Storm? If Lance is such a great wrestler, then why isn't he wrestling? Paul Heyman is the best modern writer of professional wrestling, and where is he? Talent doesn't always mean you can always get your foot in places.

Storm might have tried for all we know, and to be honest, the guy might not even be interested in writing. He is a wrestling fan, and as a fan, he knows what he likes. He did not like Impact!.

The column did not mention Turning Point, because 1) Each week the column is dedicated to Impact! and 2) Who knows if Storm even watched Turning Point?

As far as bitching and whining goes, as you said, Storm has a standing in the business (even if it's not politically great), and his opinion of the product will be much more resounding than your's or mine. Lance Storm publishing "TNA is Retarded!" on his site turns his fans against it, and a respected wrestler is known to disagee with their direction. It's not guaranteed to change anything, but I wouldn't say that it's impossible it will have any positive effect (it won't, though).

It wasn't rhetorical. But I do understand that you weren't trying to bury Lance with it, so I'll let it go.

Have we seen any of Lance Storm's pupils come out of his academy yet? I'm eager to see how great a teacher he is. He strikes me as the type of guy to make sure his students are well-versed, and to not keep secrets from them.

I'm sure he's named a few that have been doing fairly well, but I can't remember if they were from his OVW days or not.
