I can't stand Allen Iverson

Hes been bitching so much lately the last few years, and recently it has gotten ridiculous. The Sixers suck this year and im sick of hearing about them. He constantly goes to the media whenever he is not happy and spews off some bullshit like "PRACTICE?! We talkin' bout practice man we aint even talkin about the game" and makes himself look like a dumbass. He is a great player obviously but he just recently took a nutty because he didn't want to come off the bench. It was pretty obvious he was not 100% to play so the coach wanted to use him off the bench since he probably would not be able to play that many minutes. But like the dumbass he is he went off and said something like "How can I help the team coming off the bench, i've been a starter for 8 years and starting is the only way I can help the team" So instead of coming off the bench and actaully PLAYING he just sits out of the game, and doesnt even play at all.

So let me get this straight, Not playing because you aren't starting helps your team more then coming off the bench?

What do you guys think about Allen Iverson?

I don't know why, because I usually can't stand people like that, but I love the guy. For me, he is the most entertaining player in the NBA. I really like watching the guy play and I like his playing style. He just takes it right to the basket all the time with his quickness and versatility. Maybe it's because that's exactly how I play when I'm playing ball. But he does get carried away with things sometimes like not wanting to play because he didn't start. I can kind of understand his thing about practice though. I mean, you don't really have to practice hard all the time if your as good as he is. If he doesn't want to practice then fine, maybe too much practice can be a bad thing sometimes. Who knows.

NBA Practices are pretty much a joke anyways, since everybody just does all the staying in shape stuff on there own. Basically NBA practices are just shoot arounds and a few light drills. But I think if you are physically able to go through with the drills and you sit out and watch your teammates work then that is wrong.

He used to be one of my favorite players in the NBA, like back in the 5th grade I had the original Iverson Reeboks and everything but lately I dunno I just cant stand him.

Yeah I dont like the guy at all.

But, I did think he had a point when he was being interviewed about coming off the bench.

"What other scoring title winner comes off the bench? What other three time olympian, three time dream team member comes off the bench? What other MVP comes off the bench? Why Allen Iverson then?"

I dunno, I used to hate his guts but Im starting to see where hes coming from. I could have seen thew coach starting him and playing him the same amount of minutes as I could him coming off the bench.

Some guys like to be the 6th man, some guys dont. AI obviously doesnt.

Seemed to me it was just for that one game because the coach did not know he was going to play until like an hour before game time. It would not have hurt AI to come off the bench and play. Did the coach say he was not a starter anymore? This is a TEAM game and you do what is best for the TEAM. Not starting one game is not going to kill anyone. You get paid the same and it is not like anyone is going to think less of him. In fact they think less of him now for being a crybaby about it and not playing. Or at least I do. Granted I never liked him to start with. Great talent with attitude.

On one hand it's normal to think about professionalism, and why certain superstars are less professional than others, but then, think about it this way: If you're the #1 option, the former MVP of the league, and you force your team into the playoffs every single season, you should at least get some respect. Like, how unreasonable is it to want to start? How unreasonable is it to want to rest for a practice? Practice is so you get better. AI is always hurt, but plays hurt, and plays well. He doesn't need to practice. Your rookies, your losers, your inconsistent players need to practice.

It's like Terrell Owens... he whines, because what can he do? They're like good posters on a message board and the Mods, who don't have to post anything, they can just sit in judgment, while the posters make all the posts. And what can you do? You can suck up or you can whine. These players whine. I honestly think that Coaches get too much say. I may not like the Mavs, but I like how they're run. All the Mavs are happy. Nelly and Cuban keep them happy. A team with that much talent it's odd, but it's the truth.

If it's such a team sport, how come the coach has all the power? How come the refs are above the law? You can't talk back to a coach or a ref, because they are so above the players. The players are the ones who trained all their lives to get to this point. They're the ones whose careers are on the line every time they go out there. They're the ones players paid to see, they deserve to be listened to more than they are.

He gets tons of respect. He's allowed to touch the ball on every Sixers possession, despite the fact that his shooting percentage is abysmal.

Not entirely, but if you don't get your way, you don't go and bitch about it on national television. You be a man and take it up with your coach.

Incredibly unreasonable. It'd be understandable if practice only improved the individual, but practice also helps the TEAM become crisper. If the team practices without its biggest offensive tool, they're not going to be as effective come game time.

He can stop being a punk-ass who makes the league look ridiculous with his idiotic touchdown celebrations (sorry, slipped into TO-Hata mode there).

That's actually a pretty good analogy. Unfortunately, there's a third option: don't do anything stupid enough to raise the ire of the people who control your fate.

Yeah... Tell that to Byron Scott and Rick Carlisle.

I agree. The Mavs are possibly the best-run organization in basketball right now (with the Pistons only slightly behind them). The difference there is, no one in Dallas thinks he's better than the team. You never hear Nowitzki complain about playing time, but without the numbers in front of me, I can guarantee he plays less than Iverson does on any given night.

Once again, why don't you ask Byron Scott and Rick Carlisle.

Yeah... The refs are above the law. That's why they're constantly cracking down on all the players for traveling and double-dribbles and offensive fouls all the time.

Honestly, you think the game would be better if the players coached themselves and called their own fouls? These guys HAVE to have respect, or else the game disintegrates.

You're absolutely right about that. Although, a case can be made for coaches putting their careers on the line every time they go out there. Especially in demanding cities like New York, where if you don't succeed right away, you're gone.

Well maybe the coach was wrong with wanting him to come off the bench, but if he was well enough to start, then he should have been well enough to play.

Also I think the coach wanted him to come off the bench because AI was obviously not 100%...I am not saying the coach was right in this case but I think thats where he was coming from

Iverson cops a lot of shit that others don't still.

He needs to get out of Philly now imo. Either that or the team needs to get an established winning coach and some decent players around him.

It really doesn't matter because they won't make the playoffs anyway. However, I do think that he should have humbled himself and came off the bench because it would have only been for a few games, if that many. I don't see the sense of urgency in this situation. What was the rush to get back in the starting lineup? He just came off injury and they're just jocking for lottery balls. All this is is just more bad publicity for Allen Iverson.

Exactly. It would be different if they were in the middle of a playoff race and benching him would have a serious impact on their chances. The Sixers are in a downward spiral right now, and the last thing they need is AI shooting his mouth off.

It was bound to happen one of these days. I was planning on giving you *gasp!* a positive rep, too, but I need to spread it around first.

I dunno, I used to hate his guts but Im starting to see where hes coming from. I could have seen thew coach starting him and playing him the same amount of minutes as I could him coming off the bench.

Some guys like to be the 6th man, some guys dont. AI obviously doesnt.
Allen Iverson was not a 3-time Olympian. They finally let him be on the most recent Dream Team and shit like this is why he was left off past Dream Teams.
