Fallout 3 censorship becomes global

Bethesda have announced that, due to ratings difficulties in Australia, all versions of Fallout 3 will be identically censored when the game is released.

Edge has published the following statement from Bethesda's VP Pete Hines;

"We want to make sure folks understand that the Australian version of Fallout 3 is identical to both the UK and North American versions in every way, on every platform."

"An issue was raised concerning references to real world, proscribed drugs in the game, and we subsequently removed those references and replaced them with fictional names."

Whilst the renaming of various drugs does indeed seem fairly trivial, it's concerning to note that one particular censorship agency has the ability to impact every potential Fallout 3 purchaser in the world.

At first I was going to be pissed about this. But meh, it is just drug names. Although it is kind of retarded that you can have references to a real world city (DC) getting nuked but you can't pop some vicodin. Pretty messed up IMO. Oh well, guess we'll just be doing generic drugs instead.

I just think its messed that they will change everyone's version because of one country.

Even if the issue is trivial.

As long as stuff like Jet and Mentats are still in there, it's all good.

Bit worrying that something in one territory can affect everyone though.
