Lets talk about stuff

Firstly, can someone tell me where the hell Chris Jericho is going with this seemingly pointless verbal attacks against first Mickey Rourke and then Flair? A match at Wrestlemania against Rourke (w/ Flair)? A match at Wrestlemania against Flair (w/ Rourke)? To me both of those prospects means Jericho gets buried, which in all honesty I wouldn't really like to see. Unless he wins at No Way Out and all of the last two weeks has been pointless utter time filling?

Which leads me to my next point.
The Raw Elimination Chamber match. You have basically four mid carders and two main eventers, one being the Champion. So the only result that is likely to come from No Way Out this weekend is that Cena wins... or by some strange chance Jericho wins.

Obviously WWE could have done so much more with this.

Discuss.

Jericho wont get buried. He's the top heel on Raw and gets tons of heat with the crowd, and people (marks) will pay money to see him get beat up.

Yeah, I questioned why Kingston and Knox were in it, but really, NWO has been a throwaway PPV for years now, so it's not that big of a deal.

This is accurate of most of what they've been doing for the past 10 years or so.

This is true. Maybe I just want Jericho in the title scene at Mania, instead of wasting his time with either a non-wrestler or a retired one.

Right now, I can see three possible matches for Chris Jericho at WrestleMania XXV:

1. Chris Jericho vs. Mickey Rourke
2. Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
3. Chris Jericho vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin

And to be perfectly frank, I think there is a very good chance that Jericho could win them all. Rourke seemed to be the one they were going with first, but he's apparently dropped out. If he was working the event, though, do you really think it matters to Rourke who goes over? The Wrestler is not a mainstream film. It was directed by Darren Aronofsky, and was a comeback performance by Rourke, which to my knowledge, was about the weakness of the human body just as much as its strength. Rourke could do just as much for the movie's image by losing to Jericho as winning. It'd be all about the quality of the in-ring performance, I think.

Ric Flair is retired. He does not need to be winning matches. If this storyline leads to Jericho coaxing Flair out of retirement, it should lead to the active wrestler beating the retired one, with the retired one getting his licks in and proving that there is something even Jericho could learn from Flair.

As for Austin, which at this stage, I actually think is the most likely: Austin has always liked Jericho. Back in 2001, he called him one of his favourite workers, and apparently he's one of the few guys Austin would trust for one last match. Why does the non-active Austin need to go over? He could do so much for Jericho's persona if he put it over.

I think Jericho's opponent is being used as star power to draw, but I don't fully expect a happy ending for their match. Of course, this is the WWE. It wouldn't surprise me if we got a five-minute squash with Jericho looking like a novice.

As opposed to wasting his time putting over John Cena? I'd love for Jericho to get another run with the World Heavyweight Title, don't get me wrong, but it's just not going to happen at this time of year. Not this go around, anyway.

Cena vs. Orton is pretty much a lock for Mania. And if they don't go with that, I'm pretty sure we'll be getting a final blow-off between Cena and HBK. Cena has gone over Jericho too many times for him to be much of a threat right now. Jericho could really use a special attraction match at WrestleMania to both make him look like a special attraction himself, and to recapture some heat.

Mainly from rumours. But prior to that, Austin vs. Jericho was a match that I could have seen happening, simply by the process of elimination. Who else is Jericho going to face? Everyone else is tied up. Granted, he could serve in Money in the Bank again, but Jericho might be a little too big for that, no?

I very highly doubt it would happen... but if Jericho was to go over Austin in what is billed as Austin's last match, at Wrestlemania and in Texas, would that not turn the heat against him big time and make him the top heel in the company. Orton is up there too but he's kind of a quasi-heel.

No Way Out is easily the most predictable PPV of the year. The only time I remember a world title changing hands was when Eddie beat Brock. Everything else usually just stays the same to lead up to 'Mania.

Jericho won't get burried. He's the number one heel on Raw at the moment. People want to see him get his ass kicked. He left WWE the first time, kicking and screaming after losing to Cena. Jericho is awesome and I want him to always be in the main event because I'm a huge mark for him, but WWE are trying to give him a huge Wrestlemania match and storyline.

WWE could have added some bigger names in the Elimination Chamber, but they're building guys up like Kofi and Knox. This is a good way to test them in a main event. It sucks that we know there's no way Cena is going to lose, but at least there are some great workers and different styles in that match. Their 6 man tag match on raw this week was great. At least we'll most likely get some great spots and wrestling (provided Cena doesn't run through everyone).

However they could have put JBL and HBK in it to give them a couple of more weeks with their storyline... and to add more star power.

My take on this line of thinking was...
  • Jericho starts ranting about Rourke portraying a beaten up, old wrestler who can't resist one last hurrah in the spotlight.
  • He singles out Ric Flair as the personification of this. The guy who wrestled well past his prime and just wouldn't/couldn't quit.
  • Jericho tries to coax Flair out of retirement and into a WM match, thus proving his theory on Flair.
  • Flair turns him down stating that he had his "one last hurrah" at WM24 and subsequently on the Raw following. However, he does know a man that has retired and that does want that "one last hurrah". That man is none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin.
And we have SCSA v Jericho at WM25.
