Fatu/Sultan/Rikishi Yay or Nay

So Ahmed Johnson got very divided results (he actually got 6 YAYS, 6 NAYS 6 MEHS) I guess if your not a fan of the whole big powerhouse guy he didnt appeal to you. So here we go with another bigger man (unfortunatley he's was never built like Ahmed) what did you think of Wild Samoan Fatu, Rikishi the Sultan, Jounior Fatu etc? He was in the WWE for a long time he started out as a member of the Wild Samoans as Fatu, and in the late 90's was the Sultan, a middle eastern gimmick with the Iron Shiek. He really became a bigger name when he put on ALOT of weight and was teamed with Too Cool and they did the dancing. He was involved in the "Who ran down Stone Cold" storyline and I want to say that was the only time he was really a main eventer. He was teamed with Haku for a little while before turning face again and started teamed with Scotty again. The one thing I remember is he did one of the first Tribute to the Troops shows and had two female army soldiers dancing with him and the next week he was released. The WWE says that the main reason he was released was because he refused to lose weight and if you do notice before he left he began to put on alot more weight. I think he was in TNA for about 20 min before demanding Kurt Angle ammounts of money so they released him and that about it. I always liked the Wild Samoan gimmick and the Sultan was just kinda meh. I liked the dancing days and thought he was an ok villian with Haku. I'm gonna go meh with slight yayish with Rikishi.

I'm giving him a YAY because he entertained me for the bulk of his career. I loved the Headshrinkers. He was kind of a miss when he was "street smart Fatu" and then the Sultan was another miss. But Rikishi was obviously a huge hit, especially when he first started out. He has a match with HHH on SD for the title where he looked like he could really be ME material.

Hitting Stone Cold was a good step to the main event, but they really didn't follow it up at all. They gave him the new theme, but they kept his look the same as when he was a face. I think that was something small that actually would have had a tremendous impact on him being a successful heel, not showing his ass. Oh well. It was what it was. I liked seeing him with Haku too (I like Haku) even if by that point his time in the light was fading. My yay is really mostly for the Headshrinkers to potential ME Rikishi, and then meh for everything else.

Rikishi (Phatu) gets a huge yay. Before he was constantly injured, he entertained me quite a bit. The way he became a part of Too Cool was, dare I say, amazing. Sure, his mystique couldn't stick around for long once he joined, but it was awesome. He probably would have been champ if he lost a bit of weight and wasn't injured so much. I remember Foley saying in his book that Rikishi would probably be champ... possibly within a year. He was a fat guy who could dance. Who doesn't love a fat guy who can dance? For a while, while still being a gigantic fat ass, he could work and sell well.

Fatu, gets a meh. He was there. Sultan sucked. Junior Fatu sucked. Didn't he last like two weeks in TNA?

His heel turn could have been a lot better, but WWE didn't really follow through. The idea of him doing it to help the Rock was interesting and made sense. It's just too bad WWE didn't bother trying to make him a heel.

I'll go for a yay, simply because I rather enjoyed that cage match he had with Val Venis over the IC title.

Late 99, through to his heel turn, I'd say YAY.

But Samoan Swat team, Headshrinkers, 90s street smart Fatu, The Sultan, Junior Fatu and anything post heel turn Rikishi all get a big NAY.

Which evens out to a MEH from me.

I love that Royal Rumble moment. Too Cool got hugely over in just a couple of short weeks, it was a real phenomenon at the time, it came from nowhere. They were around for ages, never got over. Fatu was around for ages, never got over. Throw them together randomly, something stirred the audience, and a week or two later, massively over.

Wish that kind of thing would happen nowadays. Makes for amazing TV. And look at how even MSG, those hard-to-please wiseass New York fans, even came unglued for the group. The LAST crowd you'd expect to enjoy the antics of Too Cool.
