I hadn't seen this since it was on TV at the time. Seeing this again is really interesting now that we know the backstory!

The first round isn't great, but the second onwards is good stuff. If you only watch one match, check out Bart Gunn vs The Godfather in the semi-finals... Brutal!

Yeah, that was a great gimmick he had!

The standing ovation for Gorilla Monsoon at Wrestlemania (the last video) is a beautiful moment too.. I'd forgotten about that.

The whole thing was a sham. They took Blackman out of the tournament so he wouldn't DOMINATE and KILL half their roster.

I love how this tourney completely fucked so many guys. it's hillarious. It spelled the end for various guys in the WWE.

But it did make Bart Gunn a star with the Japanese crowd (i.e. the most boring fans on the planet)

It's been well over ten years since I last saw those clips, and I view them in a whole different light now that I know they were legit matches. Sucks so many people didn't know that, including the marks in the crowd who chanted "We want wrestling" during some of the brawls.

Also thought it was annoying when the ref would explain the rules before the fight in some of the later matches. Just let em' fight already!

And you could turn those clips into a drinking game....every time JR says that the fighters are "out of their element", take a sip.....
