Leafs vs. Sen against Canucks vs. Flames

I watched most of game 3 of the Flames vs. The Canucks and compared it to game 2 of the Leafs vs. Sens and I don't know why, but the physical intensity of Toronto vs. Ottawa was far more apparent than Vancouver vs. Calgary.

I'm not saying the 2 western teams didn't put together an entertaining hockey game, I'm just saying there wasn't as much of an "OUCH" factor as there was in the Eastern game.

You think it's because the Leafs have some of the most insane dirty bastards in the league? Or is it that Western Conference games are more based on open play and not as hard body checking.

Maybe it's just because Ottawa vs. Toronto holds much more hate. I don't know, but they were annihilating each other on Saturday, it was just nuts.

Thoughts?

I thought the second game in the Canucks-Flames series was the best game of the playoffs thus far (and Ive watched most of the games).

In terms of intensity, two reasons: #1 There isn't the same hatred between the Flames and Canucks like there is with the Sens and the Buds. Maybe if Van/Cal meet up 4 out of 5 years in the playoffs, they will have more hatred. #2 Western hockey is just different from the East. In the East its more about "the strong survive" whereas western hockey is a faster more skill based style of play.

Yeah I heard Game 2 was key, and you could even say in terms of skill the Western game was better than the East. But damn, the commentators couldn't even believe how hard they were hitting one another.

Physicality doesn't always make a hockey game better, I thought last night's game was a smart played game by both teams.

I pretty much agree with CyNick.

But if Calgary-Vancouver goes 6 or 7 games it'll get very physical. This Iginla-Ohlund matchup is going to spill over.

Hell yeah! I also agree with CyNick.

As far as goaltending is concerned, I wonder what Klepto Klown thinks of Cloutier's injury. He must be on cloud 9 right now. (for those of you that don't know, KK is a canuck fan who HATES Cloutier).

Hedberg looked great last night, so they shoudl be alright. I wonder if he conditioning is in place, because now he's going to be playing every other night, which is tough to get used to when you've been on the bench most of the time.

I thought the only real bright spot in the game last night was belfour Ottawa really didn't play well, and Toronto shouldn't have scored that second goal. Smolinski I think it was shouldn't have gone under the play, he should have went to the point and not the goal.

It was an okay game, wasn't nearly as good as game 2, but Belfour just looked spectacular.
