Tito Training with Freddie Roach

I've never really like Tito Ortiz until sometime around the second Liddell fight and then I started to like Tito Ortiz. Sure, he hasn't beaten anyone worthwhile since he eeked out a close decision with Forrest Griffin (though I thought Forrest won). But, it's good to see that Tito will be back in the octagon and possibly fighting Mark Coleman. I think a Coleman fight is very winable for Ortiz, just put Coleman on his back and pound him for three round.

But it looks like Tito is looking to actually improve a much meligned aspect of his game and is training boxing with famed boxing trainer Freddie Roach. I'm glad to see that Tito is now trying to improve his game and become less one dimensional. It used to be back in the day taking a guy down and pounding him out worked, but not any more. I'm just afraid it might be too little too late.

It's also nice to see a boxing guy in Freddie Roach is embracing Mixed Martial Artists if not Mixed Martial Arts itself.

Damn, Reav got in a Arlovski reference quicker than me...

Well on the plus side Arlovski was on a winning streak and went downhill. Tito hasn't won a fight in three fights, so he can only go up right ...right...

Either way though, as I've mentioned in other threads Tito V Coleman (if it does actually go down) will be a very good way to see where Tito is at. If Tito wins, good stuff, he just beat a legend (who also almost went the distance against the current number 1 contender/beat Stephan Bonnar), if he demolishes him even better. If he loses, throw him in against a lower card guy, to see where he's at/see if it's ringrust. If he loses that he should probably retire, if he wins, cool, give him another chance against a higher up guy.

It all depends if you are using Roach for a quick boot camp on striking or as a major facet of your upcoming fight.

He must be able to improve near anybodies striking, but I don't know about his abilities as a major part of anybodies coaching team.

I don't have inside info so I wouldn't know. I could see how it could hurt since he doesn't have knowledge of the whole MMA game so he might teach footwork and stances that simply don't work when kicks and takedowns are concerned.

I can see how he might have screwed up Arlovski, but Arlovski was always a stand up go, so by adding Freddie Roach's influence you're messing with success. However, since Tito's stand up has always been suspect I think adding Freddie Roach could only help, or at worst make no diffrence at all.

If Tito were to knock out Coleman standing I can here Joe Rogan now...

"Wow, Tito Ortiz with stand-up? This could mean a lot of trouble at 205."

Which I think Tito with good stand up would be dangerous, I'm just afraid it's too late for him to make such a drastic diffrence.

I hope I'm wrong though.

Arlovski for his last fight went to freddie and had only like 2-3 days with his mma coaches before the fight. and come fight day, instead of his regular mma coaches, a guy from freddies gym was him head coach.

The mma coaches told him to circle right and dont put up any offense until he cuts an angle but freddie's guy was shoing him stuff to do warming up before the fight that had him circling left. Then when andrei got in there, he stood in front of that gorilla and threw two inside leg kicks and mind you he had been trainin at freddies for months where he had not thrown a kick that entire time.

I just hope tito doesnt put as much importance on freddie as andrei did.

He won't because he doesn't have a glass jaw or suicidal tendencies like Arlovski.

Also, training at the Wildcard did Dan Hardy no problems.
