Griffin not ready to talk about UFC 101, says he's no one's idol

Forrest Griffin can be a quirky guy to figure out. He's not the most gracious loser. So in the aftermath of his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 101, where he made a mad dash from the cage, you knew he wasn't going to be in a giving mood when he first spoke publicly about his actions and the loss.
Dave Farra from MMA30 grabbed him, and at first Griffin joked:
"There's no reason [I did it]. Anytime I lose a fight that's what I'm doing from now on. I'm just going to jump over the cage and run out."
Griffin went on to joke that he was on quaaludes when he fought. Then he got a little more serious:
"There's nothing to say. It's not about talking, I thought it was a fighting sport. I'm tired of talking to people."
Griffin added that he doesn't talk to the media anymore and that he doesn't like the media anymore. Griffin, who got married during his down time since the Aug. 8 loss, said he doesn't understand why people even care about what he does:
"It gets old, all of it. People putting a lot of hopes and dreams on you. Telling you they put money on you, and 'you're my kid's idol.' I don't want to hear that [expletive]. Get Tom Brady on you're kid's wall. Why me?"
It'll be interesting to see how the UFC handles Griffin. To tell sell the sport, most of the fighters (Brock Lesnar excluded) have to cooperate somewhat with the media. It should be fun times talking to Griffin is he does matchup in rumored fights against Rich Franklin or Tito Ortiz.
As far as the idol talk, Griffin's words are similar to those of former NBA star Charles Barkley, who repeatedly said, "I'm not an idol." Barkley and Griffin are right. Parents need to explain in the case of Griffin's postfight behavior, that running from the cage is a little ridiculous but it's an emotional moment and even the most professional human being can lose their head sometimes. I just wonder how many media members will call a spade, a spade and say that Griffin in defeat wasn't much different than Lesnar after his win at UFC 100.

But that's part and parcel of being an elite level athlete/sportsman. He doesn't mind talking when he wins. I never saw him shy away from interviews after he beat Rampage for the belt. I think he is showing poor character. Look at what Cro Cop has faced in the last 2 years. Not easy to admit your shortcomings regarding your profession, but he has been very humble in defeat, and he didn't lose to anybody as unquestionably brilliant as Anderson Silva.

I agree with all the last posts but he didnt only lose, he got DEMOLISHED! it was the most rediculous ass kicking i have ever seen! Theres the saying that theres always someone out there better than you, but as a former champion, its hard to believe that theres someone out there THAT better than you. I would not be suprised if we see forrest start to slide into obscurity in the next couple years.

He got his brains bashed in by Rashad and then Silva just sniped him with a few shots. I have often wondered if being battered by Rashad was still fresh in his mind going into the Silva fight.

He should definitely try to be a little more gracious than he seems to be coming off as.

I dont think so. The Rashad loss was not a bad loss at all. He was winning that fight for 2 rounds and made a mistake and got a little lazy. Losses like that usually motivate you, but a loss like the one he had to silva destroy you mentally.

Look back how he lost to jardine. He got KOed but it was because he made a mistake. He bounced back and beat shogun. Jardine did not systematically pick him a part and make him look like an amature fighter.

I agree the Rashad loss was not a bad one and he definitely was winning the fight , but the way he got KO'd was brutal; taking numerous hard shots to the point where you cannot even tap on the mat that you are finished.

I think that had a big impact on him because he did not even let Silva get anywhere close to having him in the same position that Rashad had him in (possibly out of fear). It's not like Silva was even jumping all over him when Forrest was down. You hardly ever see a UFC fighter, especially Forrest willingly walk away from the fight after being knocked down. Usually the ref steps in to call it, or the other fighter starts pounding on you and Silva was not even doing that.

I'll admit, you could be right. It could be that Silva just made him look like an amateur and that tore him apart more than being viciously pounded out in his previous fight did. I'm just sayign I believe being knocked off his high horse in his last fight could have still kept him un-settled when he was getting in trouble from Silva.

Its not that forrest didnt want to let silva in the same position he got in with rashad, rashad is a wrestler. He wanted to go for the takedown especially because he was getting picked apart. Silva has never taken anyone to the ground. Hes a stand up fighter, there was nothing forrest had to worry about in terms of silva putting him in the position he lost in to rashad.

Yeah I say that to my buddies too about Fedor. But what he did to Sylvia and Andrei was different from what Anderson did to Forrest. Fedor swarmed Sylvia, and timed Arlovski. Sylvia didn't have time to do anything, Arlovski was giving Fedor a bit of a beating.

Anderson Silva made Forrest look like a chump.
