Big Storylines That Could Have Been So Much Bigger?

Three storylines come to my mind....

1. The Hart Foundation pro Canada/Anti U.S. storyline from 1997 could have been so much more bigger than it was if 1. Bret had stayed, and 2. Would have been even more aggressive with it than WWF was at the time. As far as mic work, Bret was at hi absolute best during that time.

2. The Evolution Storyline - If they would have done a hostile takeover if the entire company by just showing up at both RAW and Smackdown shows and dominating talent, it would have been so much more of a bigger angle. Evolution ended way before it should have.

3. Kane's umasking storyline - If they would have gone full speed like they were when Kane first took off the mask and he was tombstoning Linda McMahon on the stage, and being let out of an ambulance in shackles so he could go to a match, if they would have stuck with that, Kane would be in world title feuds today. I thought that angle was HORRIBLY mishandled. It went to shit when he started to feud with Shane.

Anyone else got any others?

Stone Cold was ultra hot during his run. His biggest downfalls I think from being much more successful was the neck injury that cost him a year, and walking out on the company in 2002. Its like when Ultimate Warrior left, Warrior was the hottest thing in wrestling and when he left in 1991, that hurt him bad, he was never as popular.

I still wonder to this day why the ECW name was brought back, and the WCW name was buried. WCW was by far a more well known company

UMM no? Are you going to tell me that more people knew about and watched ECW in its heyday when it was on once or twice a month at 3am than WCW which had major time slots and product original programming every week with loads and loads of great talent in its heyday of the mid to late 1990's?

What I am saying is that WWE spent all this money buying WCW, it was highly publicized, they brought in alot of their old talent, re-did the logo, used the WCW titles on WWE programming, then ran a WCW storyline for a few months, then buried the name and had nothing more to do with it.

Yeah I know he did, but business wise, he could have kept the name around and it would have been so much better. Fans would have still felt that vibe of competition. Even today I don't think that WWE has utilized the WCW video library nearly as well as they should. They are missing the boat

You do know that ECW had a following (for a time) for it to return and nobody gave a shit about WCW, right?

I agree WCW should have stayed around at least as kayfabe competition but not for the reasons you posted. And I certainly don't think it would have faired better than an ECW resurrection that was cool the first two times and then died as a weekly show. But WCW wouldn't have even had that going in.

Keep in mind ECW was just a reason to have a C-Show, so it got the shaft anyway. Probably would've been smart to rebrand Smackdown as WCW but it's too late now.

I still think ECW would have been fun to watch as a tweener during the invasion, at least for a month or two. I don't like how they had them form an alliance since most ECW fans know that Paul HATED WCW.

My biggest problem with The Invasion (besides the WCW guys being made to look like jokes), was that they were all heels. When they first arrived on the scene, Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page were both so fucking over, and really could have lended the WWE some more star-power.

With Stone Cold Steve Austin as a top heel, and the WWE Champion, Booker T would have made a great face opposition for him -- bringing the WCW Title with him.

The WWE also had several apparent stars really swell up during this era. Rhyno go so over (partially because of Heyman shouting "GORE! GORE! GORE!" from commentary), and he could have really been jumped on as a major star. His injury sort of de-railed him, but they never really picked up where they left off. I'd still like to see Rhyno back in the WWE when his TNA contract expires -- even if it is just on ECW and getting one last run there.

You also had Tazz get really popular during this era, but never really going anywhere. Rob Van Dam was so fucking over, as well, and I remember people calling for him to actually win the WWE Title in that Triple Threat with Steve Austin and Kurt Angle. It did seem premature, to some degrees, but considering the way they pushed Brock Lesnar the very next year, in retrospect, I definitely would have gone with RVD as the 2002 Royal Rumble Winner.

Kanyon, while not nearly as noticeable as the other guys mentioned, was also a gem during this saga. He managed to rack up a US Title "win" and a Tag Team Title win. He was quite an entertaining act. Anyone with a finishing move named "I'm Better Than You" gets my seal of approval. Also, his theme song was catchy.

WCW was pulling in about a 2.5 rating on average when it went under. WCW's fans didn't care about what Vince was doing though, and they just went away.

ECW shouldn't have returned in Atlanta...of all places. They should have brought them back in Philly or NYC during the Alliance angle.

If my memory serves me correctly, the Benoit-Rhyno feud could have been so much bigger. They spent a good chunk of time as a tag team, until one day Rhyno randomly turned on Benoit. There were one or two actual segments progressing the feud, but the actual MATCH that was supposed to settle it wasn't even on pay-per-view, it was on TV. And it was a squash match. That feud could definitely have been much better.

The Black Heart, Owen Hart... The Sole Survivor... The DX beat downs....

Sure Austin was the right choice for WM 14, but possibly they could have used Owen vs Michaels had HBK not gotten injured. It was amazing the face pops Owen was getting, he was a great bad ass.

You can only do one on one for so many times (cena vs orton) and it's much more exciting when there are a bunch of groups at each others' throats. I want there to be a full out Raw vs SD vs ECW. Invading the other shows and ambushing each other. Remember Team Raw vs Team SD? Shawn Michaels, Kane, Big Show, Carlito and Chris Masters vs. Batista, Rey Mysterio, JBL, Lashley and Orton.
