Gorgeous match of the week volume 3: Steve Austin circa 2001

So I decided to go with Austin's best wrestled year which was 2001 (other than when he was wrestling Bret Hart). Three match of the year candidates all with him in them. I just got a highlight of the one with HHH because it is a long fucking match and a pain in the ass to embed and if you haven't seen it you can find it on youtube.

Watching those matches it's no wonder his career didn't last much longer after '01 because his work rate was fucking out of this world ridiculous, and he was taking bumps that a man his size and with the neck problems he had just shouldn't have been taking.

I'm going to go with the Benoit match as the best one personally, the pace they kept for the whole match was just assinine and they beat the holy living shit out of one another, a real stiff battle, almost "Japan"- esque.

What about his match with Trips at Mania X-Seven and subsequent heel turn? I feel slighted.

Austin/Angle had the best "feel good moment".... but Austin/Benoit was a tchnical classic.... especially with the hot Edmonton crowd.

That's the magic of Gorgeous Match of the week... I don't post matches that never happened.

Anyways, he wrestled the Rock and while it was a great match, it was not as good as the three I have up.

3 Stages of hell got match of the year (at least in the WWE) and it has no votes here

There was no feel good moment in Austin vs. Angle at summerslam, it ended in a dq when Austin started beating the crap out of refs. You are thinking of Unforgiven the next month.

I don't know which one I like the best, those are three of my all time favorite matches. I think I'll go with Austin and HHH just because they had one of the most heated rivalries and that 2/3 falls match was intense.

Went with Austin/HHH. I didn't like the DQ finish or McMahon jumping in the ring.

Yeah WWE's biggest problem is they have horrible timing in pulling the trigger. That Smackdown woulda been perfect for Benoit to beat Austin, and Summerslam woulda been perfect for Angle to beat Austin. Both of those finishes hurt both of those guys and took away the steam they had going in.

It's because they have no balls.

Agreed on the no balls. They did it to Benoit, RVD (multiple times), Jericho, Kane, Booker T, Jeff Hardy. All those guys had one, some of them more than one, moment or match in which it would have been HUGE to put the World Title on them, and instead, usually Triple H won.

In fact, most of these instances have been with Triple H. Benoit's happened against The Rock and Austin, RVD's happened against Austin, Angle and Shawn Michaels, Jericho's happened against Triple H, Kane, Booker T and Jeff Hardy all got beaten by Triple H in their "big matches."

Yet, for some reason, a big, goofy fucking nobody like "Sheamus" can come in and win the WWE Championship during his first year no problem.
