Next Big Thing
Who is it? Is there one?
Make a case for any wrestler in WWE, TNA or the indie scene that you think has break-out potential. I call Shiima Xion. It's time to make TPWW MEAT again! Quote:

I dunno if it counts, since he is already a star on the indy circuits, but not in the major league, so I call Dan Bryan because he looks amazing so far and he was trained by HBK.
I think he will go at least as far as CM Punk. Daniel Bryan wasn't trained personally by Michaels he just went to his school. They just say that he was because it gives the fans that don't know who he is a reason to like him. He was trained by Regal personally. That's why he said he would of liked having Regal as his mentor not The Miz. Anyway he is probably the next big thing. |

I'm still going to call CM Punk the next big thing. He's big now, but he can be much bigger.

Failing that, I'll say The Miz.

John Morrison -- the only reason he is not the biggest thing in the world right now is because he has actually gone to the future and become successful there, which has altered the time-space continuum so he is not the biggest thing here.
Or Drew McIntyre. Or even face Randy Orton. |

I think Morrison has a lot of untapped potential as for as someone who is already on the scene. Miz entertains me endlessly and whether or not he gets any bigger I'll be happy that he had his run. If he ended his career now he could do so with dignity.

Nobody on the level of Hogan, Austin, Rock.
As AT said: Punk has another level to reach. For those numbnuts who think Daniel Bryan will, consider what fed he wrestles for. |

How big are we talking here?
If you mean huge within wrestling I'd say Punk(arguably already big) I wanted to say Kofi, he had a period of being absolutely on fire and why they didn't capitalize I'll never know. Some say Orton killed his push I disagree. This might sound weird but I think Morrison has the potential to be mainstream media big not To Austin/Rock levels mind you but enough to be recognizable to a large part of the public. Hes just very likable even when you're supposed to hate him, Hes good looking(duh) and he comes across as naturally charismatic. Last edited by KIRA; 03-13-2010 at 06:08 PM. |

Punk, anytime I think he's hit that ceiling, he breaks through it.
When he first signed with the WWE, I never thought he'd make it to TV (or at least in his name and gimmick) He did I never thought he'd be anything more than a bit player in ECW He was champ and ran that show for a year When he went to Raw I thought he'd be mid card at best We won the biggest title in pro wrestling When he went to smackdown, I thought his face run was stale and based on the way he was booked on Raw, it would be back to the mid card He won the title on Smackdown twice, had a feud of the year candidate When he went heel I didn't think they'd let him go 'full Punk' on the whole straight edge thing He's the leader of the most interesting thing on TV right now IMO, doing what he does best and is getting more over with just a mic than most guys can with a 10 month world title reign. -- What I'm saying is, anytime I start to question if Punk can do more, he does. He's one of the safest bets in the whole company as he's clean as a whistle, can talk, and get get heat. Honestly, I still don't think we've seen the best from him yet, what I want to see from him and what I think they'll let him do are 2 different things, but he's always excelled, and I think a couple of years from now, he'll be the face of the company. |

While on Punk he looked like an awesome heel on SD mocking Rey.
Very psychotic but so measured. I loved it and thought it was an amazing bit of heat building done there. |

I think that Daniel Puder could have been big if not for the fact that he tried to get over on Kurt Angle. However, not "Austin" big. Definitely could have seen him as a reigning Intercontinental Title Champion.
I can't imagine anyone in the ROH, WWE and FCW getting to that level. In TNA I feel that Matt Morgan could be anywhere from "Kane" big to "WCW Kevin Nash" big, although he's kind of boring at the moment. Samoa Joe had potential to be pretty big, maybe they'll repackage him yet again? I think if there's another Austin/Rock out there he may very well be a scrappy 17 year old kid right now, with a love for professional wrestling and a talent for sports. Probably playing highschool football or fucking shit up in amateur wrestling/boxing. |

Punk is great, he is already huge and has had several title reigns. I don't see his success surpassing Jericho's however. They are very similar in a lot of ways, but Jericho still isn't up to that level of Rock/Austin/Triple H etc...
Miz is somebody that could be a Gorgeous George type of heel draw. Everyone hates him so much, and if they keep that going he could be huge. As far as faces go... I mean Cena is the big thing right now, and I don't really know of anybody that will get to that "Super Cena/Hulkin Up/Feel the Power of the Ultimate Warrior level. I think WWE would be smart to focus on Cena as their main face as long as they can while building up their amazing cowardly and bad ass heels like Miz/Punk/Jericho/Batista. |

Does anyone think HHH (at least in the eyes of mainstream fans) will be on the same iconic level as Hogan, Rock, Austin, etc... once he retires?

No chance. The Rock and Steve Austin were pretty much well known all around the world. Nobody outside of wrestling fans have a clue who the fuck Triple H is.

I miss Brock
![]() Triple H could be presented to the marks as a guy on the level of Austin, Rock, Hogan, etc. But for people who have been watching long enough and know the aforementioned names well enough, he'll never appear to be on that level. I do think calling him the greatest heel of his era would be appropriate though. |

I think we got spoiled by having two mega-stars like Rock and Austin at the same time.
Both were bigger than WCW's biggest stars: Goldberg, DDP, NWO Hogan, Kevin Nash, Giant and Scott Hall |

People let Goldberg's "flash in the pan" status cloud just how big he really was. I knew who Goldberg was, and was even given some of his merchandise as birthday gifts and I had no clue who the fuck he was. The dude entered pop-culture, which is why he still gets to host crappy reality shows about nine years after he stopped being relevant to the wrestling business. The dude made money. There are much better wrestlers out there many rank higher in important to the business than Goldberg who never drew anywhere near as much as he did.
Matt Morgan is someone that should make money. That he is in TNA leaves me questionable, though. If I were him, I'd consider re-signing with the WWE when my TNA contract was up. He's had some incredibly weird runs there, too; but for the most part they were forgettable, and he's paid his dues a bit more in the industry now. He's got a good natural size, promo talent and the ability to move around the ring that will make him a threat long after his punishment for working for TNA dies down. |
