I watched it as a teen, but I wanna clear the series with my current ability to appreciate entertainment. Even now I'm finding a new appreciation for the dialogue.

I stopped watching after the 6th-ish season, so there's an element of 'fan redemption' as well.

I didn't watch much beyond Season 6 either. One of these days I'll have to watch it and attempt to make it to the end.

I have all 9 seasons on DVD. X Files was one of the first tv series to be put on DVD so the sets were like $100 a piece. I got the first 4 seasons and then they lowered the price to like $40 and used smaller packaging which allowed me to get the last 5.

You'll also want to watch the first movie after Season 5.

I picked up all the seasons when I first started my job and finally had money. I still have them all and remember watching them all again right before the 2nd X-Files movie to get me psyched up.

My favorite episode I believe is either on season 1 or 2 when they are trapped on the submarine.

i watched part of one this morning with a genie woman and a guy who wished he could turn invisible only to get hit by a truck. the invisible guy looked mad like that dwarf who's in all the films though.

I had watched inconsistently when the show first aired so I know some things about it but I'm basically new. I started from season one and made it about halfway through. It wasn't boring but it was all kind of monster of the week. Does that change in season two?

Not really. There's maybe 4-8 episodes per season that are dedicated to being part of the overall arc but those episodes are usually fantastic.

I was expecting to watch them in marathon form but then after like three episodes I was just tired of X-Files. Then a few days later I was good to go again but the same thing happened.

Trying to watch the entire series in a marathon isn't something I would reccomend. That's because so many of them are standalone stories.
It's the type of thing I would chip away in over the years on whims, like a Twilight Zone.
It doesn't really lend itself to addicting marathon watching the way Lost does.
Unless you use wikipedia or a site to pick out all of the mythology episodes, which follow one storyline.

It's worked so far.

The trick is to not expect a plot thread to continue.

Yeah you get the 'Smallville effect', "Oh Clark just took out a meteor freak in a big stand off, Lana almost died and Lex showed a sign of his darkside OH WELL NEXT WEEK BACK AT THE TALON LET'S HAVE SOME COFFEE", but it's cool.

For the first three seasons they produced a hell of a lot of good episodes but I gave up on it around the start of the sixth season. The mythology episodes were nearly always brilliant bits of TV.

Been watching Chris Carters follow-up, Millennium, on the Horror Channel recently and I think if it had continued on and Carter had been given full control it could have been something special. It was definitely ahead of its time.

Millenium wasn't a follow-up as such. It ran alongside X-Files and there was a cross-over episode. I wanna go ahead and say that Millenium even finished before X-Files did, not sure though.

I think your right. Now when I think back I'm sure Chris Carter wrapped up Millennium in an episode of the X-Files set in an asylum.

One of my favorite series. Kept me up late every Friday night. Just a word of advice: Skip the second film if possible. Saw a little bit of the flick on HBO today and it reminded me of the 8 bucks that I threw away when it originally came out. It seemed very out of place and just didn't fit in well with the rest of the series. While terrible box office returns probably killed the franchise for the near future, I hope somewhere down the line Mulder and Scully will find someway to make it back to the screen.

I liked the episode with Bryan Cranston and he has a ringing in his ear or something, so he kidnaps Mulder and has to drive west at a certain speed. Yeah, cool episode.
