Home promos thread

This was a second take at this promo, I feel like I had a couple hiccups but overall it is pretty solid. Not going to lie, all I want from this thread is feedback on my promo skills. It is my dream to someday be a wrestling manager for some local POS indy fed, and I need your help. Do I suck? Most likely, yes. But why? Just looking for any way I can improve. Props to Furious for the video editing.

Decent enough. You looked comfortable and confident and the delivery was better than a lot of wrestlers I've seen on the stick. Ways to improve: Practice. You've got the basics so you just need to go from there. Look forward to more of these and I want to see good things from you. Good luck in your endeavors as a manager!

I don't know if you have the look to be talking about demolishing everyone. Maybe you could try something more cowardly...or super intelligent...whatever. Not imposing, though.

You spoke well enough, but I'm still not really sure what the point of the promo was. Pick a topic and stick to it.

Impressive, I thought it was a little slow but I realized that is your vernacular. It was unique, you have the look of a weaselly, intelligent, cunning, will do anything to get his wrestler over kinda look. Possibly add a brief case with a steel pipe in it for that extra assurance that your man will win and you got it man. You shold send that in to Jimmy Perez at TWF. He knows a ton of people and may be able to do something with it. Bottom line, I have never seen someone that unique and that compatible with turning a mid carded into a superstar. Well done sir. Well done.

TBH I'm still trying to develop the Jimmy Cones character. Super intelligent is definitely a good direction to go in. I want there to be a hint of some sort of psychological disorder or something as well.

Actually my weapon as of right now would be the cone I carry to the ring and use as a megaphone.

I enjoyed it. Not gonna lie though, my only critism is that it seemed a bit too long. But ignore me, coz it' fine, really.

okay,

Random thoughts :

1. A well dressed man in a suit wielding a dirty cone from the road side is not congruent. I know its a play on your name but it doesnt fit. Or in a basement for that matter, try a boardroom.

2. Try a cocky slogan like..."Because no one OWNs like cones"

3. The psychological disorder thing could good. Maybe a little OCD? Maybe Cones always wipes his hand with a white hankychief after shaking hands with a wrestler or referee. Of course he would do this after the person has turned their back and then throw that hanky into the front row.

4. Maybe Jimmy cones conducts psychological tests when interviewing potential wrestlers for his stable, like the milgram experiment or shock therapy.

If you're serious about it, take a few acting classes or read a few books, they'll help you out greatly. You don't seem very comfortable 'winging it'/talking on the fly, there are lots of pauses that go on just a bit too long. Write down the main points you want to get across in your promo, not too many that you'll struggle to remember though and hit them, you rambled a bit without getting a point across at times. Steal material from others, song lyrics, lines on TV, watch any good manager from Bobby Heenan to Gilligan Gordon, you can pick things up from anywhere. You looked like you were on the verge of smiling/laughing a few times, which is probably the worst thing you can do if you're trying to make anything seem 'real'. But that should happen less when you feel less nervous/uncomfortable. And practice in the mirror. You'll feel like a complete dick doing it and you might wanna do it when nobody is around but the more you practice, the better you'll get and more comfortable you'll be. If you can cut a serious promo whilst staring at your own face in the mirror, doing it in front of a crowd is nothing. Even facials, mannerisms etc, especially those actually since you can do them quietly and not worry about someone hearing you shout about prayers and vitamins from the bathroom Watch a shitload of promos. Etc etc.

I agree, I thought you did a good job and with some practice you will easily be able to fine tune your promos into one of the focal points of the show.

Try not to walk around too much. I know it's probably nerves that are making you pace around but the main focus for the camera should be in your facial expressions and you'll connect a whole lot better if your audience can see your eyes. You might not feel comfortable looking into the camera but your character should, I would suggest setting up a tripod when you're alone and try a range of things out so you can watch it back and see what you're doing well and what you should avoid doing.

you should do a vid next with another person and pretend he's the wrestler you're managing to add some more prop into it, let ya'll feed off each other and make some venue or main event you're pumping the fans up for, get into it you know? This video was very good as well.

Like already stated, not bad. Obviously, you're still trying to find your character and flesh him out a bit. But considering you're only at the very earliest of stages, I think you're doing just fine.

Like CSL said, study videos, and read. You may also think about dabbling in a bit of creative writing.

Thanks guys, I really do appreciate the feedback. I'm going to try actually writing out a few different promos with a few different directions I could go in and see which one pans out. I'll also practice them more then once or twice.
