Ah Tom Guycott, your efforts are noble, but sadly people right now are more excited about a possible feud between The Big Show and a 51-year-old-well-past-his-prime (if he ever had one) Kevin Nash, than a brilliant wrestler like Daniel Bryan.
The IWC is a crazy place. |

Seeing as it's WM season and a lot seems to be revolving around other stars right now - Nash and Booker might have some role in WM storylines, the 21st might reveal something new aswell, there's Corre and Nexus running about - given all that I doubt that Bryan will be seeing a gimmick change or an actual push until after WM.
I'm not saying he wont be at WM defending the US title or some such thing (maybe unification could be on the cards for WM?), but I doubt anything major will change until after WM! Another aspect is that you don't want to leave your crowd with too many changes all at once. Let's just assume that Sting returns - not only will people be unlikely to lively discuss how Bryan just made Gail Kim tap out, the WWE wont make that change to Bryan exactly because nothing (midcard) should potentially outshine their big change! After WM I think we could expect a push for Bryan - although I doubt it'll be making Gail Kim tap out. . . |

It was in Boston, a huge smark city. How'd he fare on Raw and NXT this week?

Does anyone get a reaction on NXT?
The show isn't even on TV and the majority of fans didn't watch it when it was. They film it before SmackDown right? The show that the people have paid to see. If anything NXT is just annoying to the live audience. |

Daniel Bryan consistently gets one of the better reactions on NXT. I've watched bits and pieces, but Bryan is constantly getting the fans to chant "Bateman" for his rookie and such. He's gotten Bateman over (not despite Bateman -- I like the guy and he is working in his own favour) to the point where he's got to be the favourite to take NXT, despite hardly ever winning any matches.
Also, I once heard Shawn Michaels come out to a pretty much nothing pop on RAW once. It happens. You get audiences that don't pop much. If Gertner is looking for that standing ovation every time he comes out, then it's not going to happen. The WWE is obviously very happy with Daniel Bryan: * These days he wins more often than he loses, and is constantly making bitches tap out. He's also the longest reigning current champion in the WWE. * Just look at how he was treated in the Royal Rumble. Given the early spotlight with CM Punk, and hung in there with him, and eliminated two guys (Justin Gabriel and Zack Ryder). These guys ARE over, and it shows where the WWE puts them in comparison to Bryan. * He got featured in a segment, albeit filler, prior to the actual Rumble Match. I'm trying to remember if we even have a Cena backstage interview at the PPV. The WWE wants Bryan to get over, and they're going to keep trying with him. Also, who says that the WWE doesn't like Bryan coming out to the quiet classical music, and then kicking ass and getting the fans into a frenzy? Maybe the WWE doesn't actually want Bryan to come out to hardcore rock music and getting the fans pumped right from the get-go? Vince has had weird fetishes in the past. |

I'd say Justin Gabriel was like the only other member of The Nexus who got over quickly, just for his 450 Splash.

First time I've seen this, and that is awesome. This is the sort of thing that could get Daniel Bryan pretty over with the WWE crowd. Dedicate a segment like this, and tell the career story of Daniel Bryan -- backyard wrestler with dreams to independent wrestler creating fantasies to WWE Superstar living his dream and coming close to making the fantasies of many hardcore fans a reality.

He needs an angle obviously. But he has beaten the number one contender for the samckdown title 3 times, he's beaten the raw world champion. If they'd play up these facts and maybe gave him a video showing off his independent past I think he could get over huge.
He has mic skills when he's a heel. If he didn't you wouldn't have people chanting 'you're gonna get you're fucking head kicked in' and 'I have till five'. You say its just smarks, gertner, but every wrestler I know likes bryan danielson, maybe we are all just smarks. |

TBF it is MUCH easier to get over as a heel. I doubt Miz or Dolph would be as cherished here if they were faces. Part of it is the happy-go-lucky, cookie cutter approach to babyfaces that WWE takes but it's always been easier to be a heel.
That's why you hear the "they need to turn him heel" line all the time. Faces tend to be bland. Look at the most popular guys in recent history - Austin was anti-hero, the nWo where "cool heels" and so on. For me it's not a heel/face thing with Bryan. They just need to let him cut loose and be a bad ass wrestling machine. That'd work whether he was a face or heel. |

Haven't seen the segment. The guy beat The Miz & Ted DiBiase, though. Yeah, he's going nowhere.

Though it's interesting to note, not even Vince McMahon got a pop... or at the very least was distressed by the reaction he got.
Still don't see how Bryan got a bad reaction though. Thought it was one of the hotter segments of the show. |

i was at the milwaukee show and i'll say that daniel bryan's moves got some decent pops, but he as a character didn't. the potential is there, they just need to give him an angle that doesn't involve a diva. let him get over on his wrestling skill, because people seem to enjoy that. makes sense!
and as far as r-truth fucking up being the only thing getting heat, vickie's heat was louder than cena's pop. it was ridiculous. but the crowd was pretty tame until she came out. |

I was about to say that his moves seemed to get over pretty well but WepX beat me to the punch (or in this case, beat me to the really hard kick to the back).

His moves usually garner some sort of positive reaction. His PPV matches always open with a "meh" response once his music hits, but by mid match he and the guy he's working with usually have the crowd involved.
Put him in a real fued with a guy that he can play off of both on the mic and in the ring, and the fans will care. How can you expect anybody to care for a performer if there's nothing there to care about? |

They can bring up something that happened 2 years ago to fuel CM Punk and Orton, but can't logic something consistent for DiBiase and Bryan... they just kinda bled into the Lawler/Miz feud and are enemies by association. Brilliant bunch of office monkeys there in Stamford.

Yep. You know, a Daniel Bryan/Alex Riley program is just waiting for the chance to go. Riley's building some heat hanging around the Miz, and he hasn't done a shit ton of wrestling.
Why they haven't penned this to keep the Bryan/Miz/Cole triangle feud alive is beyond me. It gets Riley in the ring, keeps Bryan involved with Miz and Cole, and also gives someone Bryan can play off of. |

Continuing off of Damian, if Derrick Bateman wins NXT, he could go into a program with Riley after the Tag Title storyline. Easy build up of who is the better protege.

The "nerd" angle is not the way to go. This Bella angle certainly hasn't done much for anyone. Has Bryan ever gone after Cole for always poking fun at him? I don't remember. If not, have Bryan go up to Cole, slap his headset off, drag him into the ring, and put him in the Labell Lock. Then you'll see how much more "over" Bryan becomes, especially nowadays with Cole being such an annoyance. The IWC knows Bryan is an ass kicking machine... now everyone needs to know it. Fuck this "nerd" bullshit. |
