Mortis/WWE
I read somewhere on the Internet that in late 2003, Kanyon pitched an idea to bring back the Mortis gimmick in an effort to score more TV time. It also said that he indeed wrestled as Mortis in dark matches and on house shows before being released in February 2004. Plus, I came across this on Google:



This was printed in a late 2003 issue of WWE Magazine. It seems like that there were actual plans to bring Mortis back, but unfortunately, Kanyon was released before Mortis ever debuted in WWE.

My question is if anybody knows why WWE decided not to use Mortis and instead release Kanyon? Did Kanyon do something wrong and screw this up himself, or did the WWE just do what they do best and screw this up?

Mortis had the most badass entrance music ever.

Never knew about this.

I thought Kanyon was injured and then subsequently released whilst injured. Had a good thing going with the Alliance MVP thing before. Could have gone somewhere if not for the injury.

I feel like had they given Mordecai's push to Mortis at that time (2004), Mortis would've actually gotten over. Besides Kane, he really was the only other masked monster in the US up to that point. I don't count guys like Mankind and Vader, because they wore masks that pretty much gave away what their faces looked like. Plus, with Kane unmasking in 2003, bringing in Mortis soon after could've filled the void.

I dunno, Im a huge fan of Kanyon's work but I always thought Mortis just looked like a "regular" wrestler in a cool costume. He wasn't really all that intimidating or anything resembling a monster. There was always something goofy about the way Kanyon sold and generally moved around that worked a lot better when he was playing the slightly retarded heel.

Yeah, Kanyon is a pretty small dude. Even with the Mortis getup he never struck me as a "monster" in the traditional sense, just as a "crazy dude you should be afraid of".
