As far as John Cena being off for SummerSlam, it's doable, and they're not going to start tossing furniture out the window if they have Cena take off for a little while.

Let us also observe that people have been chanting "Cena sucks" in a chant with "Let's Go Cena" for a pretty long time now, and that CM Punk has been getting mixed reactions not too far off from Cena's.

Punk can face turn. He had to basically tell the crowd not to cheer for him during that promo, something Rock has had to do a couple of times and we all know how well that worked out.

Either way, this is interesting stuff. Punk also mentioned The Rock. I don't think that's an accident.

If CM Punk sticks around, he could end up being the next Austin, which is funny, considering the twitter feud and the shirt he wore Monday.

Don't get me wrong, CM Punk is and will always be the first CM Punk. What I mean is that he could end up being the first real anti-hero WWE has had since Austin. Someone who is willing to call it like he sees it, give shit to everyone, including management, and just not care. The closest they have to that is Orton, but Orton is more of the bad boy face.

Punk could be the guy that adults want to cheer, and they could do it without changing his character much at all. It won't happen, but it'd be cool.

Imagine how huge it would be if at the end of MitB, McMahon comes out and demands Punk give him the belt, that it's WWE property, etc, only for Punk to give Vince the GTS. People would go nuts.

It won't happen, but it'd be awesome.

I think your idea of having an "adult face" is a damn good one. Even if they kept Cena around, they'd get the best of both worlds out of it. If they can blur the line between face and heel again like they did a while back, it would create those sorts of opportunities, and that's what's going on right now just naturally.

People booing the top face, cheering the top heel (sorry Miz fans) and the mixed reactions in general. If shit wasn't so black and white more of these "chant battles" would happen, and when you get people doing shit like that, all of the sudden it becomes more important to support the wrestlers you like.

You can keep your traditional faces and heels, but throw some guys in there who are more "neutral" and I think CM Punk is a great way to start doing that again. If Cena really is any good, he'll be able to keep walking without the stilts.

They can turn and change at the drop of a dime, too. Cena might be their top guy, but he won't be forever. And his weaknesses have been glaring pretty hard lately. I hope they're ready to try to move past this guy. The WWE is not a box of wheaties.

The great thing about the chant battles and everything, is that it makes it seem more like a sporting event. Like UFC, boxing, bowl games, etc. You have a huge crowd, and they're not all for, or all against one guy. It makes an amazing atmosphere, and I think it gets the crowd into it a lot more. Oppositions makes people thrive, even if that opposition is only someone cheering for someone you don't like.

I believe the whole "Punk hasn't signed yet" is bullshit, as I posted earlier.

That said, this seems to follow the Cornette "7 year rule" to a T. It was almost 7 years ago that ROH ran this angle, with the same major player. Only difference? Bigger audience. I wouldn't doubt that Punk threw this idea out there right before he signed his contract extension. Vince probably added a twist that hasn't played out yet so he could call it his own idea and agreed to it.

I was thinking about this angle today, and the simplest way to carry on from here would be this:

Step 1: Alberto Del Rio wins Money in the Bank.

Step 2: John Cena defeats CM Punk when Triple H returns and helps him out.

I am also of the opinion that an angle this hot wouldn't have Punk leaving so soon. My opinion is that this is even more a work than people think, and that Punk stays with the company. Trips helping out Cena allows him to get some revenge for Punk's words, stand up for the WWE, and sets up Triple H vs. CM Punk for SummerSlam.

Del Rio then cashes in his briefcase and becomes the new WWE Champion -- giving us the rumoured Del Rio vs. Cena match at SummerSlam. I could think of arguably more exciting routes to go, but that feels like it's something the WWE could very easily do.

Punk goes to ROH with the belt, Cena is seen in the audience "stalking" Punk. Basically, it's the Cena is fired story from the end of last year but with a bit more "reality" added in.

One of the WWE's former writers had an interesting idea on a podcast regarding this. It won't happen, but what if Punk "leaves" Cena gets "fired" and they sort of team up.

Punk has his complaints, Cena could go on about how they've put the entire company on his back, focus on him, and don't care about all the other guys who bust their asses. Basically, Cena's just another cog in the machine, but the one that's worked the hardest.

Basically have both guys being "edgier" both outsiders looking in, essentially trying to "change the landscape" of the WWE.

Not saying it'd be great, but it was an interesting thought. Two people, neither employees, trying to change the business.
