I'm no fan of the X-Box, but I'll give them credit where it's due. When it comes to the hardware, the Box blows the PS2 and the Gamecube out of the water.

The games, however, are another story. With the exception of a scant few, most X-Box exclusive games have ranged from extremely underwhelming to total utter shit. The better games on the platform are either ports from other systems, or PC games that were released on the console instead *coughHalocoughKotORcough* Sure, the graphics are slightly better, and the online play is more solid, but for good single-player games, you're much better off with a PS2 or a Cube.

Casual gamers are probably better off with an X-Box (especially if they don't have a good PC) I, however, will look elsewhere.

I have all three systems, and I rarely play my X Box... I hate Halo, and the other games arent that great either... I play my Gamecube most, with PS2 and PC coming in at a close second... X Box's only thing it has going for it is the Halo series, which the first one is now on PC, and the second one wont be far behind...

I have all 3 systems and spend most my time on the PC (stupid internet)

Also the Xbox has argueably the best designed pad in the Controller S.
Yes Microsoft made a mistake when they first launched it, they recognised it, and corrected it.

The fact that people consistently say Xbox hasn't good good games, when it has annoys me ever so slightly.

Yes, OK, I agree the Gamecube is better for the single player games, and I'll also agree Halo is utter shite (but let's not start another Halo Bashing thread ), but it has it's fair share of good single player games, but alas, I'm gonna end up writing another essay, and I don't want to do that right now.

Halo was released on the console first. Halo on the PC didn't come out till just last year.

If you want online play, you shouldn't be fucking around with consoles anyways.

Between PS2 and GCN, I've got enough games. X-Box doesn't have enough games I can't get elsewhere, and since most of the games people cum their panties over are either available on PS2 or PC, I don't see the big deal.

However...Sell outs?

Hard to say, on one hand, it was released on X Box, on the other hand, if it had a PLAYABLE demo for PC Gamer (Never heard that), wouldnt that make it seem that they were developing it for PC, but decided to release it on the Box as a launch title, so it would have a worthy game?

So it was originally designed for Mac, playable demos came out for PC before HALO reached the X-Box. Should there even be a question as to whether or not it's a port to PC?

Sounds like they had to port it over to the X-Box, but that's just me.

See the thing is, it was originally designed for mac, then pc, then when it became an Xbox exclusive, it would've continued as being developed specifically for the Xbox.
Then when it came out on PC, surely it would've been ported

Who cares?

If anyone sold systems of past generations for newer ones, they aren't sellouts. They're just keeping up with the times; this is a constant in an industry of ever evolving hardware. As far as selling a PS2 for an XBox, I wouldn't totally agree with that. But I'm gonna shoot in the dark and say he did it for hype seeing as how XBox is king of that. For the price of an XBox you could get a Gamecube and one of it's great games; so if your friend doesn't have a Gamecube, slap him for me.

DualShock2 is the best overall controller for the general play mechanics of games. The Gamecube controller suits games made specifically for the said system, so I won't talk down to it (I own a Wavebird and I love the damn thing). The XBox controller, which by the way needed an overhaul anyway, is a retarded DualShock2 (Look closely) with buttons that aren't to reliable. I like the S-Type, but whenever I play a ported game on another controller, the experience is always better.

Why all the talk anyway? Can't we all just... Get all three systems?

Except they already had it out in a form that was fully developed enough for a demo, so they had to port it to the X-Box in the first place, whether or not the original game ever saw the light of day on the original platform.

If they hadn't gotten far enough for a demo, I'd say otherwise.

The one thing I hate about the GC controller is the Z button.

If only they had put it somewhere useful, and made it large enough to hit easily, instead of a vestigial appendage on one of the trigger buttons.

PS2's controller is the best, pretty much. I preferred the N64 controller for the msot part, but that's not really an option. The PS2's pretty decent, a middle of the road mainstay deal. The gamecube's controller, as you said, is kinda specialised. It's great for games designed forit, not so great for others (Though Hunter was ported well).

I'm not too into the X-Box, myself. I'll stick with the two I've got and not put money in Microsoft's poickets when I don't need to.

I have all three systems, and a PC that I rarely use for gaming.

Looking back, I've spent more time playing on my PS2, not only because it's been out longer, but because I like more games for it. The XBOX would be next on my list, as it has sucked several hours of my life with Ninja Gaiden, Shenmue II, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and superior versions of third-party games such as the heavily unappreciated Beyond Good & Evil. I believe Halo is way overrated, so I don't consider it one of the best games of the system. Lastly, there's my GAMECUBE, which is used once every few months, as there aren't that many titles, relative to other systems, that interest me. Still, I feel all three are vital if you're looking to experience all the industry has to offer.

I've got an X-Box with a 200gb drive running linux.
It's great
MP3 Server, Got my DIVX and DVD movies on it... Can get any game I want for free/cheap.

I'm not complaining.

lol I was thinking the same thing. It wouldn't work though. That's why I'll never put in another hard drive. I'd much rather just put it in my computer and get the same effect.

Yeah, I've got a partition that has the original Xbox OS on it, as long as I'm using a legit game, it's sweet.
Live sucks anyway, I dont like online play with an xbox, its what PC is for!

Considering Microsoft Office 2003 Pro (retail version) sells for like $1000 here, spending $240 on an Xbox isn't really selling out.

Especially if It's being used to run Linux.

but really. It['s a video game system. I don't know why people would want a console for online gaming, I think HALO sucks, and I don't really have a lot of games I wanna get on X-Box, but if people do, it's not exactly a bad thing.

Granted, I'd like to give as little money as I can to Microsoft, but selling out for buying a video game system? Please.

Halo sucks, but XBox Live is really fun for online gaming.
It's so simple to set up, and usually a good laugh while you're on there because you're talking to people (I know that's been possible on PC for years, but on the PC it hasn't been a main part of the experience, while on Live it's a central part to it).
Plus it's got online games you don't usually see on the PC or are harder to play on the PC, admittedly they're mainly sports titles though.

I dunno, I'm not in the mood to explain XBox Live properly right now

"Harder to play" games on the PC from a Console is easy to fix... There are connectors out there that let you use your PS2/X Box/GameCube controler on the PC... I havent gotten one yet, but Im planning on it...

Nothing personal, but just pointing out that for the games on XBox Live, the game's been developed for one pad, whereas on PC they've had to design for keyboard and mouse, and joypad.
By harder to play, I also meant there's a lot more that can go wrong with a PC version of the game.

PC's will always rule the FPS though especially on playablity.

Everyone has preferences, and I love to play on XBox Live, especially as I know some of the people on there (who live quite a few miles away, either because I know them from uni, or they've moved away), and hearing them as they lose or win, is much better than reading them type into a keyboard.

Personally though, I'll play pretty much anything as I'm a video game whore.
